All- I need so advice on getting the fwd motor out of the motor mount for my CSX SD80 6-18296. I have loose motor screws. I have looked up every post I could on the internet, the only ones refer me back to OGR in which a couple of people have done this. I have the exploded parts diagram and have poured over it. The posts here Doug has said to just remove screws 30 and 38 and remove the motor from the mount, along with the motor cover. I have removed those two screws and the motor is still firmly attached to the mount. Looking at the IPC diagram there are no other screws that I see to remove that would allow me to get the motor off the mount. How hard is this to separate? I have tried turning the motor, turning the wheels, all to no avail. Do I have to remove the side frames? I can't see from the IPC how that would help and all the other screws on the bottom, three forward and four aft won't help either since they are screwed into the block. Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance.

Okay- got it, I hade to use a lot of force with a screw driver to separate the motor mount from the block after I triple checked there was not another screw holding everything together. By the way it felt I would have sworn there was another screw in there.
Glad to hear you got it,I've had a couple like that.
Make sure the bronze bushing stayed in place in the bottom of truck and the bushings on the axle are in place correctly when putting it back together. I use paint sticks under the front and rear wheels so the center wheels will not float up and down. Then I center the frame on the truck and install the motor, then pushing down lightly on the motor I turn the flywheel to draw it into the truck.

Thanks for the tips Doug! I was hoping you'd see this post and comment, much appreciated! Most importantly for the tips in your previous posts about the axle bushings! Had I not read that and remembered I would not have known that! Not sure I understand about the paint sticks though. Those axle bushings are a real pain to keep centered in the correct position. So you set the flanges of the front and rear wheels on the paint sticks if I understand correctly and allow the center wheels to just float? As far as the motor, I did the same thing as you suggested with centering it and then turning the flywheel to draw it in. The first time was a pain in the bottom, but then I had to take it apart because the bronze bushing flipped upside down even though I thought I had everything correct before I put it back together, but the second time I had it all in within 10 minutes. Even I couldn't believe that! I just love doing a job for practice! LOL!
Yes,The paint sticks allow the center wheel set to float. With the flangeless wheels and the motor out, the truck likes to tip back and lift the center one enough to let the bearings move. That's what I found easiest for me.

Okay, thanks Doug!
