Very impressive.
As a battery commander in a previous life, I have to ask: who made the M109 howitzers? A few of those would come in handy for the Beer Line Defense Unit.
I too am interested to see some military scenes!
Fellow Redleg - Jim Brenner,
Like yourself, I was also a battery commander in a previous life. Worked with both the original 109 and 109A1's.
Years ago, Aurora Plastics had a line of 1/48 military kits. The towed 8" howitzer, high speed tractor, and the 109. There were 3 releases of the 109. The original "square" box, the green/blue rectangular box. These only had the original short barrel. The white, rectangular box had both the short barrel and the long barrel to allow building as the 109A1. All three releases had the very early spade ramp rather than the individual spades. These are the howitzers in my "motor park". If you watch the big online auction site, they show up occasionally.
The howitzers on the flat cars are probably more 1/53 or 1/55 scale and more toyish with "pull back action". I originally found them through a gaming site (after I bought the first three, the site did not restock because the price went up). I did find them at two sites (Esco and Toy Wonders) but you have to buy the box of 6 tanks and 6 howitzers. There is also one listed right now on that famous auction site. These look more like the 109A6 that I have seen pictured under the Howitzer Improvement Program.

Thank you very much for the information. I'll start looking for them. I saw the M109A6s at a hardware store in Virginia a few years ago, neglected to buy them, and now regret it. BTW, I was with the M109A1s in Baumholder, Germany, (1st Bn, 2FA, 8ID) when we converted to the A3s, oh-so-long ago.

Don't have a military scene but do have a military train . Here are a couple of photos of two Tanks on a custom built flat car. Also noticed we are Neighbors, Know the Grumman area well . If you are interested in visiting the TMB train club (Farmingdale, off Route 110) where we are building a 4'000 Sq Ft layout let me know

I'm working on my layout modifications as fast as I can. The new "Camp Crockett" Army base and Army railroad yard is a big project especially when I committed to using foam board for my Texas desert rock and mountain formations.....all new to me and I have to learn as I go. The Army camp and RR yard will encompass an area of my layout 11' X 6' with an addition area at the opposite end of the layout for my WW2 Aerodrome Air Corps airport. If you go to my posting on "foam board mountains" you can see the progress I am making in sculpturing and painting the foam sections.
Larry, your camp photo's are super, thanks for posting. Good work.

Steve (Tex Special),
Just looked at your thread on "foam board mountains", looks like you will have some great scenery depicting just the type of military area you envisioned.
Larry
"Liberty AFB" is the missile railcar base on my layout. (Oh, you didn't think all those "missiles in a boxcar" weren't assigned somewhere? )
Main gate -- ID cards, please!
Get your ID cards out again for the second sentry!
Three missile cars on the center yard track are closed up tight and on alert!
And in true Strategic Air Command tradition, we have security forces posted around the missile railcars on alert!
The Air Force flag flies proudly under the US flag, just a short distance from base headquarters in the quonset hut.
(I just found another Quonset hut at a train meet last weekend, so pretty soon, Liberty AFB will have its own Base Exchange store!)
I still need to make or buy a fence to go around the base, but I've put that off since we're talking about a fence that will probably be at least 5 or 6 feet in total length.

As a former SLSF man, our run west out of Oklahoma City sent us thru Ft Sill, MP 625.5...and I mean thru the reserve where war games were staged. That same line also served Altus air force base, MP 687.

Thanks Larry, have a look at my last posting on the foam mountain thread. I ran into a road block of sorts.

Especially love the Nike missile car.
