I'm probably the only working stiff out here that has a young family & really has to save to make a purchase...(yeah right)

My Thanks to Steve at Mr. Muffins trains for the great price, customer service & shipping on my new MTH 2-10-0 engine.

I was able to save $25 per week to make this purchase, and after 4 months, I had the cash to pull the trigger. I am forced to get the best price, so I called around to three of the OGR Forum Sponsors.

The 2-10-0 Pennsy is what ran the line in our community dragging ore & coal from Youngstown to the Lake.

I wanted to make the purchase this week, because we lost our mother last friday & her services were this past tuesday & wednesday. She fought for 18 months, but the cancer took her. I wanted to buy this engine, and have it lettered on the cab "Shirley Jean" in honor of my mom.

If things go as planned, Shirley Jean will be pulling a drag of ore cars at our community seasonal layout this year. Mom loved her community, and she loved the train display we build every year for our community, so it seemed only fitting.

Thanks Steve-

All of those folks out there with coffee cups that say "world's best mom" only had them because my mom was too busy actually being the "world's best mom" to enter the competition

Rogerpete,

Sorry to hear that you lost your mom.  She must have been a great mom and that is a tough loss (speaking from experience).   Don't worry, you're not the only working stiff out here on the forum, there are plenty of us with family expenses that must come first.  Just keep plugging along with a purchase when you can justify it.  You you don't need an entire wall of Premier locos or 6 Z4000's wired to a 24X40 ft layout to enjoy this hobby.  A little bit at a time will eventually amount to something much more than you have now.  Again, i'm very sorry for your loss.  In time, your sadness will subside, replaced with wonderful memories.

There is nothing like the unyielding love of a mom.  I loss mine a year ago and I feel your pain.  I extend my deepest condolences to you and your family.  With the honor of naming a hard earned locomotive after your mom, may it bring years of joy and remembrance of all the special things she did for you.

As for Mr. Muffin's business, I have not yet had the pleasure to purchase anything.  But with your story, I will seek him out.

Sorry about the loss of your mom Roger. As per the decapod you purchased, it will make a wonderful tribute to her memory, I never thought about the lettering idea as a remembrance of a loved one.

Did you know that the Strasberg RR outside of Lancaster PA runs one of those engines. If you are ever in the area make sure you check it out.

Sorry to hear. I too lost my mother to cancer after an 8 month battle. Not fun . Now my father is 80  and in rough shape. Had a terrible last year. Stressful.

I also am struggling to keep things afloat with a young family. While still feeding the train addiction. I am piling it up for the hopefully near future. I plan to build a house on our beautiful 40 acres.  I have worked hard to make this beautiful spot with a large pond I built. I am in the excavating businesses and am lucky enough to have an arsenal of heavy equipment to use.    We currently live in a mobile home with no room. But it's gonna change.

Many great people on this forum have allowed my kids and I to purchase things in payments. I always have a few deals "cooking".  Thanks again to all of you guys that have helped us. Mike Caruso,  Jim Lawson,  Sandjam, Ezmike, Rich66 and more I'm sure.    It's the only way we can swing some of these trains. I've never screwed anyone in a deal, and never will.

If anything positive comes from losing someone, it is a reminder to spend time with your family, and make better choices on what's important.

Matt

I too must join in the condolences for the loss of your Mother.  But what a great tribute and a memory of her for you:  To "name" an engine for her!  I think that that is just a great idea.  Might do something like that, myself, in honor of my Dad, although it was many years ago that he passed.
