Hi, I just got my first Proto sound 3.0 engine, it's BNSF Road number 7695, part number MTH 30203121.  I am running conventional AC. The problem I'm having is when I turn power off it enters the shutdown sequence sounds for about 4 seconds and then just abruptly goes silent. Any help would be appreciated.

Johnny,

I discovered this same issue with PS3 engines when I fired up my Amtrak 44-Tonner, which is my first (and currently only) PS3 engine, for the first time. The issue is apparently endemic to all PS3 engines being run conventionally, though it seems to be the worst on the 44-Tonners, which, due to their small size, use the S-gauge board, which has a smaller-than-typical capacitor to sustain the shutdown sounds. If you do a search on short shutdown sounds, or similar terms, you'll find a few threads on this forum about this, including the one I started when I encountered it on the 44-Tonner.

Hope this is helpful.

Chris
