In my old age (78), I am very content to simply run my three loops of different gauges from my comfortable office chair, surrounded by my many railroad photos and prints, my shelved locos and rolling stock, and my extensive train books collection. The sounds and sights of moving engines and cars are kind of Zen moments for me. The otherwise solace of the train room is a pleasant escape. At this point, I have zero interest in any more acquisitions, restoration or serious maintenance and prefer to just chill with the status quo. I have already made a verbal agreement with my talented mechanical engineer/genius son in law to acquire custody of all my trains, accessories and power supplies. His son, a recently graduated aerospace engineer, also has some interest in model trains, so hopefully both will enjoy my modest collection!

I love your Zen moments concept, Art. I, and I believe many other, of our Forum friends, especially those of us up in age, have similar feelings about wanting to relax with our trains, which is most conducive to experiencing those Zen moments.

In addition to running trains, other model railroad activities that relax me are tinkering with the scenery, doing light repair and maintenance, read and posting on this Forum, and reading OGR and CTT magazines.

I always use my smartphone whenever I read or post on the Forum.  For me, the Forum is a wonderful source of light, relaxing entertainment. Arnold
