I like the clove.
Probably the most used brand of fluid out there
Many folks like the MegaSteam smoke fluid, it comes in many scents. They also have a product called Eliminator that will eliminate bad odors from your smoke units.
I tried it, based solely on recommendations here, and like it. It puts out more smoke than any other I've used. I bought traditional Marx and American Flyer scents. I'm with you in that I wouldn't go for the wild ones.
Some will say that Lionel Legacy locos should only be fed Lionel Premium smoke fluid. Some will also say that it produces a bit more smoke than Megasteam but it only comes in once scent and it's somewhat unpleasant.
I have 15 of the scents plus Eliminator. I also have NADA (no scent) for places that we run trains with poor ventilation. Have not been disappointed. The realistic scents like diesel are for the enthusiast. May want to try Hot Chocolate or Pumpkin Pie for holiday visitors.
Best smoke fluid on the market.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Good stuff. I also have some no-scent NADA, which I use for flushing a second-hand loco when (all too often) someone has used a gross floral flavor, which leaves my train building smelling like a House of Pleasure.
Thanks Every one!!!
Great stuff.
The best thing about mega-steam is that it doesn't linger in the room long. It dissipates very fast.
The Lion Master manual has in it that use of other than Lionel Premium Smoke
Fluid will effect warranty coverage. The number is 6-37841.
Smoke fluid does not come with LM engines. Where can you get this fluid, Lionel does not list it?

Warranty scares are pretty ineffective. I doubt they will do a chemical analysis to see what you have been using. Mike Reagan at Lionel thinks some fluids gunk it up, but a large number of users here on the forum experience otherwise with the popular fluids. Probably Mega Steam, MTH and Lionel Premium. I wonder how the small bottle of Lionel smoke fluid they used to package with the smoking cabooses differs from the premium. Lower vapor temperature?
Just about all Lionel dealers should carry it. I think it's about $8 a bottle.
GINGERBREAD!!!!
I bought my first bottle of Mega steam two weeks ago.I will never go back to the Lionel premium fluid again.I have heard the talk about it.All the talk (that I have read)"PLEASE don't post links"is about the scent smells. The fact of the matter is you will get a huge-huge.. increase in smoke output.I have been tweaking and re doing my Lionel smoke units forever trying to get them to preform better.Love the Christmas Pine scent!Big shout out to Mega-Steam!Nick
M S is good fluid, I like Nada. Don't care for the scents. Besides no steam engine I ever watched smelled like bacon or coffee. That would be fine coming from a caboose.

Which, for the most part, is probably what JT had in mind originally...
