I have upgraded my Strasburg to ERR command and all works really well, however the smoke output is pathetic, I have set the commander to code 4 and reduced the resistor to 20ohms, there is smoke but nowhere near the volume that I would expect
Originally the smoke unit would have been connected to the rail power, I was just wondering if the ERR board output is a lower voltage ?
I am reluctant to reduce resistor value any further so as not to damage commandeer
Any ideas ?

20 ohms should put out plenty of smoke. Is the resistor bare of insulation and what is the wattage rating? For a given resistance the higher the wattage rating the cooler it will be at a given voltage.

Like Pete said above 20 ohms should put out plenty of smoke. A recipe for little smoke is insulation on the resistor along with an over filled smoke bowl will produce little smoke output.

The rating is 3W, the resistor is naked and the bowl is not overfull so I am at a loss
Maybe its all I can expect from this type of smoke unit, maybe if I get the urge one day I might put a fan unit in
If its the same smoke unit with a different resistor you should get at least as much smoke as before. I get decent smoke with a 22 ohm resistor.
If you have another radio board, R4LC from ERR or an R2LC C08 or higher try it. Don't use an R4LC from a Legacy engine. The power for the smoke resistor comes from the large triac on the radio board.

If it's the puffer, it's not going to smoke like a fan driven smoke unit. OTOH, you should be getting plenty of smoke with a 20 ohm resistor.
