Was looking at this unit for purchase. Anyone with experience with its smoke producing capability? I have seen different opinions on Williams smoke units.

In a word, abysmal. Nothing like MTH or Lionel if that's what you're asking.
I have the 40602 C&O, and have had really good luck with the smoke. Of course it doesn't puff like higher end engines, but after adding some fluid, it pours out of there pretty well! Maybe I just got a good one!
Mine smokes adequately for me! JohnA
Thank you all for your feedback! In searching other related threads, it sounds like it may be possible to upgrade to a different smoking unit IF there is space available. There is so much great information here on the forum.
Any more recent experiences with this particular loco, or the same steamer in different road names? I was considering purchasing one. I see that it has only one motor. Do you find the "pulling power" to be sufficient for a 6 -8 car transit of reasonably sized cars?
Very few of the largest steam locomotives have more than one motor, that's not an issue. I'm sure this locomotive can pull your consist without any issues. Even my tiny 0-6-0T LC+ 2.0 locomotives can do that! Here's my Lionel H10 pulling ten scale boxcars, it didn't even break a sweat going around the layout.
