smoke stacking smoking, never turned on though

if your running it in conventional from transformer the smoke switch must be off, if your running it in DCs mode the remote turs the smoke on or off@! if your smoke is always on you have a shorted FET making it run all the time an  ASC tech can repair it for you ! an engine item number for your train would help if you truly want the exact answer ! depending what kind of engine you have steam or diesel they use switch on steam engine sometimes on tender sometimes on engine, on diesel should have slide switch under bottom of Diesel if your talking about a potentiometer that is for speaker volume!!!!!!!!!!

It is running from a DCS Explorer. Can't find a model# on the train, so here's a picture.  Thanks so much.

the directions say I don't need to prime the wick with oil If I turn it off.  So not sure why this is happening

f you choose not to add the fluid (or have already added the fluid but choose to run smoke-free), turn off the smoke unit control (Full Counter Clockwise Position) located under the tender body. Failure either to add fluid to the unit or to turn it off may damage the smoke unit heating element and/or wicking material.

The directions only apply to conventional operation.  If you're running command, the DCS smoke control overrides any volume and smoke settings.  If you turn the smoke off with the DCS system and it stops running, it should stay stopped until you use the DCS system to turn it back on.

If, for some reason, it is always on, then you have a failure, most likely the board, but it should also be a pinched wire.
