I'd like to add an amusement park to my layout. Looking for one ready to just connect power to. Should have Ferris Wheel and a couple of other animated rides. Looking to fill a three by four foot space. Any ideas? Any dealers at York?

I use Lemax carnival rides on my layout. I just need to drop the power feeds and connect a power switch(es)

You will see some lemax items, some older lionel items, and a few new product makers at York for these types of rides. All vary in price.
Same as the others.......I have a few Lemax Halloween items that may become part of a 'park'. A haunted Mine and house work well....but they also make more traditional rides. There is also Coaster Dynamics....they post here at times. But a ready to go single item doesn't exists.
Does anyone know if the Mr. Christmas carnival rides look right? I don't know their scale, but they have a very nice look, with lots of animation and sound if you want it. IMO, Lemax looks rather gaudy and over the top in most cases.

I feel that the Mr. Christmas carnival rides are way too small for O gauge. Most of their rides that are listed as World's Fair are smaller then HO scale. I do like their larger carousels they are highly detailed and look better then Lionel's one.
You can try eHobby Tools for LeMax. They've been at York for years and are in the Orange Hall. I've bought both tools and LeMax from them. They're easy to deal with.
They're web site is http://www.ehobbytools.com/index.html

Most of mine are Mr.Christmas. The "scales" range from "HO" to "O", but they are fine with me. I'd rather too small than too large on my smallish size layout. Here is what I have: VS=very small, S=small, C=close to "O".
Animated Circus=S, Roller Coaster (old style)=VS, Merry-Go-Round=C, Ferris Wheel=S, Bumper Cars=VS.
I also use a Lemax Fun House (a Halloween item) and a Lionel "Test O Strength". Other rides I scratch built.
Understand that many rides, like a coaster, would be HUGE if they were in "O" scale.
Paul and Joe:
Thanks for your comments and information. I have two Mr. Christmas rides. One a really large carousel that would be way too big, but the second one is a ferris wheel would be of the small size for O scale.
As I got to thinking about it, the people would have to be between 1" (4 feet) tall and 1 1/4" tall (5 feet) to be 1:48 scale. I agree that too small is better than too large. Heck, it could be a traveling carnival for vertically challenged people.
These pieces are quite pricey, so I will make my choices very
carefully before I start my own carnival. Thanks again guys.

It just goes to show, once you think you know everything, along comes something you didn't know, and you didn't know that you didn't know it.

They do seem a bit pricey now. I bought all of mine from Don's Toys in the Orange Hall at York about 6 years ago. All were in the $60.-$90. range. I'm not sure if Don does York anymore.
Handmade Carnival Rides....These have been around for years. Pricey but worth it!!!

Bob,
Don no longer has his business. I'm a good friend of his and I always stopped by his booth since we are both in the orange hall and I have been to his home a few times. I went to his tables last April and he was not there and Lou told me that he got out of the business.

Here are some of the carnival rides that I built around 30 years ago and they still work today. These shots were taken about 9 years when I used them in a public Christmas display. 1st is the Husler, 2nd is the Round Up, 3rd is a Car ride and last is a Ferris Wheel.
Some of the other rides that I built include
Double Ferris Wheel
Ball Bounce
Fun House
Air Plane ride
The photos below are from the 1st public Christmas display that I built 33 years ago, I built these around 35 years ago. From left to right Ferris Wheel, Merry Go Round, in front of it is not a ride but a seal spinning a ball on it's nose, pony ride, Train ride (HO train pulling flat cars with O gauge benches with people are attached to them) circles the entire carnival, Octopus, as not a ride but a band is playing in a rotating gazebo, Car ride, Helicopter ride, in the small building is a woman spinning a pizza, Cup ride, Swing ride, a man is being dunked in the Dunking Booth, and last is the Loop O Planes.
