When I purchased this Lionel Arcata Bay passenger car from 1992 for a surprisingly low price on eBay, I did not expect the high level of quality that it turns out to have. I am happy to say that it is one if the nicest cars that I own. It has a highly detailed body with crisp graphics and embedded aluminum strips above and below the windows, heavy die-cast end caps with four spring-loaded operating doors, 6-wheel all metal trucks, and lighted interior with passenger silhouette strips. The car is part of a beautiful 5-car set that includes a baggage car, two more coaches, and an observation car (6-19019, 6-19024, 6-19025, 6-19026). Most of these cars for sale are new in boxes and unrun. I wonder if they were under-appreciated at the time they were offered, and ended up in unsold inventory.

The LTI era of Lionel has some really nice gems that I think we tend to overlook for the newest stuff.
They must've sold relatively well considering the popularity of the Daylights back in the day, and Lionel reportedly made these (along with the GS2 model they made to head these) to appease operators who didn't want to pay the then ridiculously high prices of the Fundimensions era GS4 and aluminum cars.
They are really nice cars regardless. They were the second in Lionel's long anticipated remakes of the prewar/postwar style Irvington/Manhattan/Madison cars after the 1991 remakes of the aforementioned. The Daylight paint scheme on these cars makes them particularly attractive.
Here is a shot of my Lionel GS-2 and it’s consist of Madison passenger cars both of which were produced by Lionel in the early 1990s. In my opinion it’s makes for a beautiful train as it sits on a straightaway on the Shenandoah Short Line. However, at the time the Madison cars were produced there were many who apparently did not like the old fashioned looks of the Madison cars with the sleek GS-2s . They may not have sold all that well but I’m glad I bought mine.😃😃😃😃

I agree 100% - the Madison cars look great with this engine.
That is why I sold my aluminum cars some years ago and replaced them with Madisons like yours. I doubled up on two coaches (Andrew Jackson and Columbus) to make an even longer train.
The Lonestar Division of TCA made a "Mint" (bullion) car that matches perfectly - #6-58512. I run it behind the engine, then the passenger cars
I'll post a pic of it tomorrow
