I recently purchased a 6-18071 GS-4 and now need the appropriate consit.  Two questions:

1) The GS-4's outer box shows a set of Madison cars and I've also seen the painted aluminum streamliners.  Which is the more correct?

2) My GS-4 is a 1998 production model, who has the best=matching paint scheme: Lionel 6-8307 series (early 80s),  Lionel 6-19107 (early-mid 90s), K-Line (illuminated w/ people), or Williams' Crown Edition?

Thank You/

George (Chesapeake, VA)

I think your best bet is to stick with Lionel Daylight colors.  Definitely stay away from K-line, as their red is deeper and their orange has a very noticeable golden hue to it as I recall.  Can't say I'm all that familiar with the Williams colors, so perhaps somebody else can help there.  But if you're looking for a "best match", I'd go Lionel Daylight.  Just stay with Lionel's regular Daylight cars -- not the Shasta Daylight cars that were produced a couple of years ago in 18" aluminum.

The Lionel aluminum 15" steamlined passenger cars from the 80s would be good, and would represent what the GS-4 pulled in its heyday. You don't want anything larger than the 15" cars, as your engine is smaller than scale. The Daylight Madison cars pictured above would work well, too, and look very nice. Whichever you prefer. The older Williams 15" aluminum Daylight cars are a close match for the Lionel colors, if you stumble across some. Avoid K-Line and MTH cars. Their colors are off; they're duller and different shades of red and orange.
