My Dad bought a Santa Fe Switcher a 10 years ago, one day when I was running it he told me to press the direction button, the headlight was on but the engine went back words and vice versa. He had to get a new loco because Lionel at that time did not have a way to rebuild that loco and they said that it would be easier to buy a new loco. So he purchased a Southern Pacific unit from them, and has been a trooper for 7 years. The last 2 years have had issues with the smoke unit, and now it won't lock into forward via reverse switch on the bottom of the loco. Other than that it will stay forward when direction is on. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks

Well, the smoke unit probably just needs maintenance. As far as the forward lock, that's likely either the switch or the reverse board.

Smoke unit is okay, I think there might be a wire loose, I will check tonight.
