Stainless vs Tinplate track? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I was hunting around my basement today and found a stash (literally a stash. I completely forgot about this.) of Gargraves 3 rail track. What I would like to know is how do I know if this is stainless steel or tinplate track? I see they make both. I think I purchased it about 15 or 20 years ago. The only marking I found on the track is on the underside of one of the ties. Looks like it's painted silver.

I have many pieces of Gargraves stainless and on the bottom they stamped Stainless on some of the ties

Magnetraction does work on GarGraves Stainless, so that's not definitive. You need both types to compare.

I know that I had some years where the bottom of the center most tie was just painted silver to indicate that this was a stainless steel piece.

Thanks. Mine does have 1 tie painted silver on the bottom. I didn't know if it was an indication of SS or tinplate. Now, I know.
