I use static grass and sprinkle (ie, non static) accents on it since most grassy areas are not manicured golf courses. Although I cannot comment about the efficacy of other static grass devices, my Noch GrassMaster II works great. Static grasses stand quite nicely at attention while sprinkling grass on the wet surface. I usually paint my surface and, while the paint is still wet, ground the grass master by sticking a pin in the wet area and then sprinkle static grass onto the surface.... much like a salt shaker. I've gotten compliments from visitors (one owns a large landscape company) and questions about "how is that done?!"
IMO static applied grass is better looking where you dont want a bumpy "flat" grass covering. I buy the grass in bulk at various lengths and colors, mixing to fit my needs.
