I have a 3rd Rail engine with Railsounds 4.0 which has lost it's chuff. I get bell, whistle and start up sounds but when engine is in motion it has no chuff. I tried a total re-set of engine but nothing changed.
Most common issue is either the chuff switch or the wiring from the chuff switch to the sound board. It also depends on how they generated the chuff, what vintage is the locomotive, and what TMCC package does it have? It could either be a mechanical switch or magnets with a reed switch.
John is correct. Also some of the EOB systems generate chuff by counting the stripes on the flywheel tach strip. EOB may require a chuff reset. More information needed on the 3rd Rail engine.
Good point Mike, I have a 3rd Rail with EOB here now for repair and it does indeed generate them internally. That would be the easy way if it were so equipped.
We actually need to know exactly what kind of boards are in there. Is this a command locomotive? Does it have cruise control? Have you opened the tender? I'd like to get a picture of the board set in the tender.
