Everyone,
I'm currently designing the benchwork for my new layout. The layout will be a shelf style layout with two main shelves spaced 20" apart. I'm contemplating using steel and aluminum structural members in the upper shelf to minimize the "thickness" of the shelf. The shelf will be 20" deep. I'm thinking of using 1" or 1.5" angle iron to support the shelf. The subroadbed will be 1/2" plywood. This would give me a shelf thickness of +2". The angle iron would be welded to a perpendicular piece of angle iron that would then be bolted into the studs of my wall. There would be one angle iron support for each wall stud to give me an 16" spacing. (I have access to my wall studs from the unfinished side of my basement.)
I've done some testing and I think the shelf will be structurally sound for O guage trains (probably wouldn't want to climb on it).
My question is what should I expect in terms of interference with the TMCC/legacy or DCS signals?
I was thinking I would wire each of the angle iron supports together and then earth ground these supports to help with the TMCC signal.
Anybody have any thoughts or experience that would be relevant in this situation?
