Hello All,

I’m having an odd issue with the PFA function on a new PS3 engine. It seems that the PFA function only works halfway through. Here’s what happens:

Activate: functions normally.

Arrival: functions normally.

Segment 1: the app advances to segment 2, no response/ playback from engine

Segment 2: the app advances to departure, still no response/ playback from engine

Departure: the app does not advance beyond this and there is no response from the engine. At this point, I hit close.

After this, I noticed the engine fails to respond to commands such as rev up/down. If I shut down the sounds on the loco and restart it without cutting any power, it then responds to all the rev up/down commands I had input prior to shutting down. Still no PFA sounds.

I have a few other PS3 engine and never seen this issue. I’ve tried two different iPhones with the app and had the same result. I’ve seen other identical engines from this same run with no issues. Normally I wouldn’t mind too much as I don’t use PFA too often, but this one has a custom set.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thank you Alan & Joe for your responses!

Alan - I will try with my DCS remote tomorrow and report back!  Sure glad I have one!

Joe - The engine is a RailKing MP15DC - 30-20753-1.  Just released in the past month or so.  As I mentioned, it's a custom run uncatalogued item with a custom PFA sound set, so I really want to get it working. I've seen video of another one working properly, so hoping it's some issue with my setup.

UPDATE:

I tried running the engine with the DCS Remote as recommended above by Alan. The problem still persists. With the remote it plays normally up to the second sound sequence just like the app, and then pressing the direction button does nothing. After a few presses of the direction button, it stops “PFA mode” and resumes controlling the actual direction of the engine.

Joe, are you still thinking I need to reload the sound file? If so, I’d rather MTH handle it because I know that when you do that, it loses it’s factory info, so if that’s the case I’ll just wait until MTH is back up and running with service to have them handle it.

Phil,

It is the sound file for sure.  It will play all the way through if you reload the file.  It still does not divide it up into the correct amount of segments but it WILL play all they way through.  There is no need to re load the chain files.

Bring it up the next time you are able and I will fix it for you.  Mine did the same.  I have run into a few others as well.
