I  have a wooden coal tipple that has 16 columns - each 1/4" square, plus steps and elevator. I need to elevate the structure about 1/4" since the clearance above tracks is only 4 3/4" - and I figure 4 7/8" to 5" clearance is good (will match Menards run-through structure clearance).

I thought about using 1/4" thick wood pieces, cut in 1/2" squares and painted concrete color...need to buy new band saw blade first as mine just broke last week, Murphy's law at work again.

Before I go the wood pieces route, does anyone have other suggestions?

Thanks.

Paul,  I recently raised my GGD Ogle Coaling tower and decided to fabricate footers for a group of support posts in a single line.   I did this partly because it was easier, partly because structurally, it would be stronger tying them all together on a common footer...

I cut them at a slight angle, like 5 or 10 degrees on my table saw, then roughed up the soft white pine to create texture.

Here's some photos if you think you might want to pursue this route.
