Amazing work Alex! Must be a big layout for that!
Hello Everyone,
I have been prepairing for the storm that will probably hit my workshop directly, since I am in central New Jersey. Hopefully, I will be able to finish this diesel shed for Bill Elliote. This is the first section. It is 18 inches deep. The overall building will be about 84 inches long. The building has been somewhat difficult to construct because it does not have a base to help hold everything square.
Good luck with the storm for everyone that will be affected.

Completed this city scene for our club's new sectional layout:
I liked the way the elevated section and concrete "railing" came out so I knew I had to include something similar on my own layout. When Schenectady moved, expanded and became "New Schenectady" a similar design was used.
The railing was cut from 1/4" thick MDF. I made a jig and drilled sets of three holes in a long strip of MDF. Then vertical cuts were made on the bandsaw to produce the arches in the railing.
The lower section arches were cut with a saber saw. The texture on parts of the lower section was created by using a salt shaker to sprinkle fine sand on wet latex paint. It was a lot less expensive than the spray can textured finishes available.

Another great Sunday showcase thus far!!
Alan, for you and others in the storm's path, good luck and hope all come out of this storm safe & sound.
I really enjoy looking at these photos each week. There sure is a lot a talent on this forum.
Jim, Do I see another article coming?
Bill,

I built a White Ground Model Works foundry kit back in 1983. The instructions that came with the kit were as clear as mud as I remember. I made a few modifications as some parts made no sense what so ever. It turned out OK and was used on my module for the Southern Wisconsin O Scalers. In the early 90's I started working with Ted Schnepf on his layout. He liked the model and asked if he could use it. In exchange he gave me an unbuilt version.
Now it's 2012 and I needed a background building so I pulled the kit out. This time I only had three pages of the instructions and the picture on the box cover. So I winged it again. Being a background model I did not put a lot in inside detail as it would not be seen. All in all it turned out well.
Nice, Don.
Elevated areas are a great way to make room for structures and scenery that would never fit otherwise, aren't they?
Jim
Yes they are and again I thank you for the great ideas.
Another batch for the bay…

Jackson,
