Also Division Point never went in production - Not enough orders
And I guess they sold the prototypes.
I've added:
KM PAINTED SP - WITH BUFFERS
KM PAINTED DRGW - WITH BUFFERS
SP LETTERED AND DRGW PAINTED
Ready to take your orders.
will the buffers be removable ?
Cor
I would hazard to guess the buffers were somehow mounted to the draft gear in lieu of the couplers for transit from the KM factory to the docks.
Outside of when two units were being tested in Austria, judging by the space between units it looks like only the "end units" had buffers mounted for transportation.
The buffers certainly aren't needed once they were unloaded in the U.S. They were probably removed before loading into the ship's hold. There's clearly no buffers on the 4001 or the units in the hold as they were being unloaded in New York.

Looks like a Buffer / Pilot could be an added option.
Just added my reservation for a second unit, Rio Grande paint with SP lettering.
Thanks Scott;

Hmmmm, Kraus to much money??? Lionel GG-1 is . . . . . Lionel Bipolar is . . . . . . Lionel PA set is . . . . . . . Just sayin, looks like a very comparable price for a loco not done, is a great looking model and best of all it is a 3rd Rail product so you already know how great it's going to run! Russ

Scott, if you didn't already know this, but there is a book called "Southern Pacific Historic Diesels, Volume 2" by Joseph A. Strapac's. It's packed full of information about the K-M's with detailed pictures and drawings, it be a good source for information and design I think.
Unfortunately, I do not own this book but have looked through it before.
Another excellent book is "Southern Pacific & The KM Hydrautics" by Robert John Zenk, published in 2014 by Southern Pacific Historical &Technical Society.
This Bookmark Covers all hydraulics including Alco & Exports. Including the restoration of Second Series SP KM 9010 by the PLA at Niles Canyon Railway in Californica.

Thanks very much for the book resources. I'll pick them up. I am working with a gentleman that has all the drawings and resources needed for this design, who also is working on the restoration of the ML-4000 at Niles Canyon. I can't wait to get started.
Enyone yet who has them received ?
Can,t wait to see mine

Hi Folks,
We shipped all the paid / domestic orders on Wed 3-2. Internationals need inspecting. They will ship next week.
The same goes for the C&O Hudsons and SP Daylight cars.
Thanks Scott for the update

That's quite a comment, coming from a dye in the wool "doorstop" guy. 😁

That's one beautiful loco!

Any video of the prime mover sound?

Ill try and get a video. I only had time to take it out.
BUT ESU used their recording of a V-16 MD870. They also included dual prime mover sounds. It sounds really good with the dual speakers.
Awesome!

Definitive model!
Stunning! I’m glad these got made. I hope they get the deserved exposure. If I hadn’t drop freight, I’d be all over those RG brutes.
Recieved my Krauts last friday. Both SP but one in yellow paint. Both are fantastic models and run great!
I Had a crew member who wouldn't stay in his seat so I had to open the model, locate the old screw, and install a longer screw that came in a separate parts bag.
The unit looked as good inside as outside!
I did notice that the loco was nose heavy so while I was at it I added 6 oz to balance the unit to a 50/50 weight distribution.
When I get around to opening the other unit, I will add 6 oz to that one.
I should pop have taken photos while it was open, but the CRS kicked in.
