Sunset models smoke unit

I recently purchased a Sunset models smoke unit that I want to install in a MTH proto3 F3 dummy diesel.The instructions state that it needs at least 8.5V either AC or DC to operate.My question is if I wire it to DCS track voltage 17-19 volts will I damage either the motor or the smoke unit.And if so what are my options to prevent damage to the smoke unit.Thank you for any advice.

Sunset had like a gazzillion different smoke units over the years. Post a picture of what you bought ……
