I emailed Scott Mann with some pictures of the T&P 610 when it ran excursions for the Southern during the late 70s thru early 80s. He will be adding it to the options for the 610 so if you are interested you need to let him know. All my pics are stored away so these came off of the internet...........thank you to whoever took them.

Thanks for posting.

I am quite enthused about this project - TP 2-10-4 has been a favorite for a long time. Had the good fortune to ride behind #610, Birmingham-Chattanooga in the late '70's.
Would be cool to make a Freedom Train variant of this loco as well:
AFT version is on Scott's list !
I would buy the Southern excursion version in three rail.

It's on the list, too !

AFT 610. The forgotten Freedom Train Steamer!
DaveJfr0 posted:What date did this steamer start excursion service with Southern? Doubt it was 1972 or earlier.
Definitely NOT 1972, as the T&P 610 was not even restored for the American Freedom Train operations in Texas, until 1975/1976. So it had to be after about 1977 that the Southern Railway "contracted" for the 610.
There are pictures of it dated 1977 and 1980 so that should be the period. I think it was used to replace 4501 and the 1980 pictures show 4501 and 610 together.......assuming the return of 4501 to excursion service.
In March 1977 610 was deadheaded from Ft. Worth to Birmingham Al. by Bill Purdie. The first trip was on July 9th 1977 from Birmingham to Chattanooga Tn. Last trip was Oct. 6th 1980 from Atlanta to Taccoa Ga. Info from "Steam's Camelot" by Jim Wrinn.
Sunset has added the 610 Southern version to it's reservations list.
Sign up if you hope to get it..........I am!!!
Got my reservation confirmation. Can't wait to place my picture of 610 running wide open at Sweet Briar, VA heading to Manasas above the model when it arrives.
