Super 'O' Military Train - pictures (lots)

Walt, as for value the latest big Greenberg set book lists it at $300 to $750.  By the looks of it in the pictures I'd bet on the higher side.  List it for sale on the Forum.  I bet it will go.

I would also agree that, based on the pictures, the higher end of the value range is where this set falls.  It might even be worth more than $750 due to the presence of what looks like all the boxes and paperwork.  If I remember correctly, the price guides state the values listed are for the trains only and don't take into account original boxes and paperwork.

If this set is truly complete, I think it would be very desirable to a Postwar collector.  If it were mine, I'd probably want to get it appraised and the contents properly graded, and then I would consider putting it in a reputable auction with a reserve.

If your friend is not in a hurry to sell his set, he could take it to the Greenberg Train Show in July. He could show it to the dealers and ask them if they are interested and how much they would pay for it.

With all due respect to this post, that would be the last place I would sell it.  A dealer will offer about 50 percent or so of the value, because they have to make a profit as well.  You may get a bit more than that, but I would not take this to a Greenberg or other show and try a dealer. 

To get the most money from this, at the least ebay with a reserve (sometimes premiums and charges there are less than an auction house) or one of the auction houses that's been doing well with the train auctions and specializes in them.

Beautiful set! The bay is the place to list it for top dollar and I would  expect it would go for a minimum of $700.

Speaking for my friend, thank you all for your comments so far.  I have gotten a few offers already even though it's only been about 6 hours since I posted.

The decision is my friend's, not mine.

He's in no hurry but I would suspect he'll make up his mind in a matter of days.

BTW: 2 offers did not include a 'buy price'.  Since he doesn't have a price in mind I would suggest that if you contact him thru me make an offer.  He's not the kind of person that will try to bleed every last dollar out of this.  I'm guessing he'll take the best offer and just go with it.

To be fair to everyone that makes an offer, I will get back to each and every one of you and tell you the leading price in case you'd like to make one last offer.  It will NOT be a back and forth bidding war though.
