Ah, but here's a puzzler: In one of my former model railroad lives, I pondered having a three rail layout with nothing but steam power thereon. (Postwar and some more recent releases. Think in terms of stuff like DaveC's layout, or the way Norm C. approaches the hobby, that sort of thing.) Still think that could be a hoot.
That reminds me of a story. My wife and I lived in Peekskill (NY) for 10 years. Many years earlier, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) had proposed extending the electrified third rail from Croton North to Peekskill. It was quickly realized that the cost would be too high. So, after I built my layout around 2003, I sent a friend of mine who worked for (MTA) Metro-North Railroad the picture here telling him that "At least my railroad is electrified in Peekskill." He quickly snapped back with, "Yes, but I see you are still using steam!"
