IT's SWITCHER SATURDAY MARK 2 !  Good morning switcher lovers!  I'm Patrick, ( trumptrain) filling in for @jhz563 as he has some family commitments today.  We welcome his return next Saturday.

This thread is for all things related to switching locomotives, critters, and dinkys, large or small.  If you love those little locomotives that do big things then this thread is for you.  Please post your photos of toy, model, or real switchers here.

A few simple rules:

1.) Be kind.

2. )  Post photos in alignment with the OGR Forum Terms of Service.  Make sure you have permission before posting any copyrighted photos.

3.) Enjoy the thread!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.  Be safe = be healthy!

I'm posting one photo of Washington Terminal Co. ALCO RS 1 number 63 to get us started.  I'll circle back later and post a few more.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you all have to post!  IMG_4344

Hey team, the Murnane crew drove out to Harrisonburg, Virginia (James Madison University) this week for a walk around the campus and sure enough we were able to see some NS switching action just outside the campus.

I hope everyone is doing OK, we're doing fine "laying low" here other than quick outdoor day trips, we'll see what happens when school is supposed to start though.

Best...Rich

Here's my MTH Virginian 0-8-0 switcher that I finally got running after repowering it with a new motor . This one gave me problems every time I tried to run it because the rods would bind or the bolt holding them to the drivers would loosen and fall out, causing the engine to seize. Major PITA, but now it seems to be working fine. Have to check the running gear every few laps for peace of mind. Beautiful engine, has PS2.20200805_113915

Great photos, videos, and pics everyone!!   Keep em coming!

Here is WTC 63 doing some switching on the Free State Junction Railway.   This is an Atlas O model with TMCC which I bought from a fellow OGR Forum member.  He painted this loco in Washington Terminal Company colors.  I think he did a great job!

I used to see the real version of this locomotive serving Washington DC's Union Station  and at the Ivy City Engine Terminal and AMTRACK coach yards as I go in and out of the city to play gigs and/or  teach at a music school in Georgetown.   New York Ave was my path into DC and it took me right by the Ivy City Engine Terminal.   Although the RS1 is a bit underpowered ( at 1000 hp ) for serious road work, it is credited as being the first road type switcher.  Later models RS 2,3,4/5 were built with higher horsepower and could handle serious road work in addition to any switching duties.  As an option, the short hood could house a steam generator for passenger train  ( usually commuter ) assignments.

I've pre - ordered the new MTH Proto 3 version of  Washington Terminal  Co. number 46 due to arrive this fall.  I'm grateful that MTH decided to produce an RS 1 in WTC livery as one of their final productions.  I've always loved the early RS series of locomotives ever since I  first saw Lionel's version in the 1950s.

Barney the brakeman wipes his brow.  Today is a scorcher! IMG_3567

Mack gives Luke, the engineer, hand signals as the locomotive eases toward to gondola. IMG_3564IMG_3575IMG_3562

The gondola is ready to be pulled from the team track.  The RS 1 is gettner done! IMG_3641

Happy SwSat Everyone!  Great pictures and views of various layouts.  Geysergazer - great scenes again, thanks, Bill T - an "Ohio Central" BEEP - neat, having spent nearly 20 years in Dayton, now I have another BEEP I have to find!. Crisb4z - GREAT video, really interesting how you restored that switcher.  We don't see to much 00 and I admit to being one of those folks who could not really put much detail into the HO vs 00 discussion, I wondered if the gauge is the same on the track?  Tom Densel- not sure i recall you posting recently so WELCOME or WELCOME BACK...neat layout.  Great use of the classic placticville structures along with some unique ones.  TrumpTrain - I agree the Washington Union Terminal stuff is neat, I to rode through the edge of the yards but usually behind a GG1 on a clocker from Philly off the Eastern Corridor.

My switcher today is a MTH GE in Southern Colors.  My back story is that the (very cheap) management of the Leonardtown and Savannah had need of a diesel switcher in the immediate post war period and "big brother" the Southern RR just happened to have this one ready to excess...so arrangements were made and a lease / buy worked out.  L&S is pleased with the diesel (except Old Joe our senior steam hogger, who can't stand them) but has not changed her livery as yet...candidly given how cheap management is, she is lucky if she every wears official L&S colors.  Good thing its not lunch time as this local switch job often pauses near here so the crew can go to McDonald's, of course tieing up the main intersection in Small Town.

MTH Switcher in Small Town

Happy SwSat Everyone.

Don

P.S. Trumptrain (Patrick) Thanks for taking over the thread today and keeping us going.

Hey Rich',, that's a real nice camera you have there.  May I ask what brand and model is it?  As I'm in the market for a new camera that takes good videos'...

TALES OF THE DOCKSIDER

Regular DOCKSIDER readers will recall all kinds of strange foreign power somehow ends up in the B&A/NYC yard in Worcester, MA.

This Saturday it’s UP GP20 no 475.  She derailed while switching and damaged a wheel.  The UP crew wanted to move her to the shop under her own power, but the Yardmaster, out of an abundance of caution, sent shop switcher X-8688 out to retrieve her.

X-8688’s Crew was excited to meet the UP crew.  They wanted to hear all about the famous UP Big Boys.  The UP crew, of course, were more than happy to brag about the prodigious pulling power of their largest loco and the Docksider crew “ate it up”!

Did anyone see the old ball signal behind 475?  It’s out of service, but the Yardmaster leaves it up because it reminds him of the good old days.

John

Hey there, this was taken on my iPhone Xr, we were walking around at James Madison University (on my older daughter's list of maybe colleges), heard some train horns, walked around some buildings and sure enough had a little show!
