Happy Switcher Saturday folks, and Merry Christmas!  Happy Hannukah as well!

For this weekend's kick off photo,  here is my Daughter's pet shop switcher under the tree.

Have a great weekend every body!

A short version of the Switcher Saturday guidelines:

1. Everybody have fun and be nice - Santa is watching!

2. Switcher Saturday is all about Switchers of all sizes,  steam diesel electric,  full size, narrow gauge,  all model scales etc.

3. Despite the alliteration,  this thread is open all week.

4. The ogr forum requires any pictures posted directly to the forum be something you have permission to post.  Wanna share something cool and can't reach the owner for permission?  Just post a link - we'll still check it out!

Photos and video show my Lionel Reading 0-6-0T switcher as illustrated on page 32 of “Model Railroader Cyclopedia Volume 1 – Steam Locomotives” by Linn H. Westcott - listed as built by ALCO in 1910. It is an older conventional engine and scale-sized, though small. Lionel is now offering a remake of this type of engine with Lionchief electronics and sound, which I think will be a good improvement.

My wife & I got our Christmas spirit going by hopping on the Santa Express out of Sunbury, PA on Dec 8, 2019.   The one-hour roundtrip went up the ex-PRR (now NS) coal region branch as far as Paxinos, PA.   As a push-pull operation - led by #1946 - the turnaround was seamless.  Train was packed, nice to see all the families with children turn out.  North Shore provided the horsepower, not sure of the coaches, etc.  I was very glad to hear the NS allowed the excursions on their rails - since no freights use the branch on weekends.  Would have liked a longer ride but Santa had other venues to visit !IMG_0413

Excellent work on your projects of late including the erector set bridge.  Great sound with the steamer.

My good friend, Leroof, deserves all the credit for the Erector Set bridge. He made it and gave it to me. Arnold

It is late 1949 and "Old 18" is one of the last few H6sb engines on the PRR.  At one time the PRR rostered over 2,000 H6 engines.  "Old 18" showed up as an H6b in 1909 and upgraded with a superheater in the 20s.  It worked mainlines, then branch lines, then locals, and finally as a shifter.  In two years there will be no more of these engines on the PRR.

"Old 18" is a 3rd Rail model pulling a Weaver scale UP express car.

ADDED:  Notes on the UP express car.  The two-tone gray scheme “Express Service” replaced the all gray scheme in 1946 and was replaced with the yellow/gray scheme in 1952.  That is why I look for this paint scheme for my 1949 era.  The 40’ BX-50-XX cars were short on the inside so not as tall as other cars.  I'm not a UP expert, so correct me if this is wrong.
