Hello switcher saturday crew.  Welcome to our weekend gathering on this most alliterative of days. If you like an A-5 over an Allegheny, or a Porter over a Centennial, you found the right place.

As you may know I have returned from my family trip south, using the auto train for the north bound leg.  Upon arrival we found wide nose Dash 8 #515 waiting us to start spotting the auto racks.  Definitely the biggest "switching" loco I have ever seen working in person.

On the total other end of the spectrum I learned about some Italian shunting motor locomotives this week. some of these were built during the waning days of WW2, or shortly thereafter.  These take the cake for the thinnest loco bodies I have ever seen. Switcher Saturday guidelines:

1. Everybody continues to be nice.  In the digital age it's too easy to forget that words on a screen were typed by a living person.  It's never been an issue on this thread yet, and I think we should be proud of that.

2. The subject here is small locomotive power of all kinds.  3 rail O is a given,  but all are welcome,  Full size, Hongz, live steam,  park RR's, industrial critters,  clockwork specials etc.  You get the idea!

3. This weekly thread starts on Saturday but is open all week.   Feel free to check out old threads. Here is a link to last week's thread.

4.  This thread is in the photo album section to follow the terms of service of the OGR forum website.   In that same vein, please only post pictures of your own or those you have permission to use here.  Think it's cool but can't find a way to get copy and paste permission,  no problem,  just post a link instead.

5. Have fun!

I just received this morning from a french seller a lovely critter. It is an O scale model of a BERLIET RLCB yard switcher. The original model dates from 1926 and several are still preserved in museums.

The model is part of the HACHETTE collection and is die cast and plastic and is a static one but it seems possible to motorize it and pull one or two freight cars which is that it was intended to do. Two liveries are available the original blue one and the later green of the french railways.

Lew- ever considered adding a switch by the diesel? A couple of short sidings would fit inside that reverse loop quite nicely.

Bob

Bob, I've thought about that but that's just it: very short sidings. To get reliable coupling coming out of an O36 curve you need a half-section separating the remote uncoupler from the track switch. To get the variation& variety of consists I want would require siding space for 20 cars or so plus a drill track. Hence the O-5-O. I have been considering using half the floor space in the train room for an Interchange yard.

Well guys, its Switcher Saturday and I can't come close to either Frenchtrains Berliet RLCB that I have never even seen before or Bill T's beautiful red / white Corman switcher.  However I will make an attempt to give you some fun pictures.

Lehigh Valley Switcher and caboose

Normally I try to make up a back story concerning my Leonardtown and Savannah, but I could think of no reason a Lehigh Valley Switcher would be on the pike.  So I will just admit that I like Marx GE-70 Ton Switchers and try to find the matching caboose .  They are colorful, usually run good, and are normally modest in price.

NYC Switcher

Since you have seen the NYC F-3's on the L&S, I will just have to admit that the NYC does have some trackage rights over the line to gain access to Savannah.  Here is a GE-70 Ton NYC switcher moving an empty boxcar back for pick up and return to Maine.  We needed extra potatoes for the weekend low country boil !

Hope I am not too late for S.S.

Regards everyone

Don
