Hey there #SWSAT gang! I have to work again this morning so we will keep this short.

Switcher Saturday is a weekly thread based on appreciation of Switcher locomotives of all scales and gauges and the important niche they fill.  Everything from mining locomotives to road Switchers to amusement park critters is fair game,  assuming it can be considered a Switcher in some form.

Be nice, don't use pictures you don't have permission to post, and have fun.

Happy&safe SWSAT, people!

The news that MTH is closing the doors and shuttering the windows got me thinking more generally about these newfangled [highly] electronic engines. I really like speed control because switching pike and I have a tiny fleet of PS3 SW1500s but how long will those boards last? Will they fail simply from age?

So.....I got out my favorite War Horse from the age of Lionel PW and put it to work in order to see if I could enjoy switching using a three-pole open-frame speed-demon-geared Lionel NW2. Guess what? It worked just fine!

For control I used a venerable (IIRC last manufactured in 1998) MRC Dual Power walk-around throttle:

Setting out a load of fuel oil at the Sunoco depot:

So I have no more anxiety wrt electronics failures. The PER will just keep on delivering service to it's customers.

Happy SWSat!

The rails of the RSJ&B have been quite lately. Not much freight traffic at the moment due to the nice weather. A few switching orders did get sent over to the yardmaster from a few local businesses this week though. The yard master called in B&O Chessie 2314 , (K-line S-2), to grab the loads and bring them back for the next through freight to pick up.

The two REA cars will be dropped for the next outbound freight

Happy SwSat everyone...I am a little late today, too many household chores to get done before I could get to the trains.  BJ3- I have to say I love the Leggo people on the layout.  I have dozens of those folks left over from young kids and wondered about how to use them, might try it.  Lew - Lionel PW NW-2 a favorite ... great shots and Patrick - thanks for offering up Kline.  Why?  Because today I am going to follow.  Wife and I are just back from East Coast summer and I was digging around in my trains for a suitable switcher and I found this, stacked with some other boxed items (label in so it was not obvious what it was).  What I found was a Kline S-2 Diesel Switcher in a SF warbonnet scheme.  I don't remember how or when I got this but it was never out of the box.  So I pulled it out and WOW was I impressed.   This thing has dual motors, roller pick ups, 2 operating couplers, headlight, and something called "Quadra-Grip" and is claimed to be true 1/48 scale.    The performance was amazing.  Smooth, rolls over my 0-27 switches without any hesitation, pulls like mad, and is quiet as well.  Hard to believe Kline is gone when they produced products like this.

Here she is from the front, great paint scheme and perfect finish.

Here is the side view.

Kline SF Switcher side 2

This thing is the perfect size for the Leonardtown and Savannah, smooth and powerful in a relatively small physical package, yet Kline is no more!   This is going on the active roster for sure.

Happy Saturday everyone !

Don- I have a bunch of K-line S-2's and MP-15's. They are great little engines and do pull well. I've re-wired all of mine in series to slow them down.

Their Plymouth diesels are second to none.

RSJB18 / Bob:  ...”bunch of Kline S-2 and MP-15...”. You lucky duck!   I do have one MP- 15 (UP) but it was still just a little too long for my inner loop and I had to trim the end platforms. This S-2 is just right Hey maybe I will call it my “Goldilocks engine”  May try your trick with the motors if I get up enough courage.

Thanks  for your pictures

Don
