All aboard.....well sort of! Many of my coworkers have enjoyed seeing the article on my Polar Express layout in the December OGR so I thought I might make a smaller version to have in my office during the Christmas Season. I am building it light weight on three 2ft. x 4ft. x 2in. pieces of blue styrofoam board making a 4ft. x 6ft. layout . One board is dedicated to being the Polar Express mountain. The track is just what came in the starter set. I started this past Saturday November 4th. Here is the first  board so far.

What better way to say Merry Christmas to the people you work with all year long.

Great idea! The people at work will appreciate it. I used to bring a small circle of track and trains to work every Christmas. People start coming over to my office just to see it. My situation has changed and I no longer have room for the train. Thanks for posting, Skip. Hopefully, you will encourage others to do the same.

This is timely as I have plans to start on a 2x2 or 2x4 N-gauge winter layout for my office this weekend.  I don't have the space for O-gauge and even if I did, I think it will be a bit too much for my office culture anyway.

But I wanted to share my trains with the people I spend the majority of my life with.  That's the thing about our home layouts.  We are so proud of them but it's sad that so few people get to enjoy them.  If I ever ran into a bunch of money, I'd build my layouts in a public place for everyone to enjoy.  I know you had to compromise on yours and put it in the basement instead of upstairs, which is one more step removed from the public eye.  And it is kind of a shame to hide such a beautiful layout away from the world.  That layout really is on another level.

Can't wait to see your finished project.  Looking very good so far in the short amount of time you've worked on it.

A portable Polar Express office layout. Great idea.

For those with the time, energy and modeling skills, how about Polar Express modular layouts to set up at children's hospitals!

I think the Polar Express article in the magazine is very powerful. It can fire up imaginations in the same way our imaginations were fired up by the great Lionel and American Flyer layouts in the 40s and 50s in the big department stores and other places mentioned in recent posts.
