...except for one - a black Penn Central that a fella 'doesn't want to sell' at auction for a mere $2999.99!  I gather that they are not common, but a penny shy of $3000?  Seems a rattle can of black paint and some custom decals would be a better idea...

Thanks to Lionel and their announced VL model, folks seem to be shaking loose their JLC models 'before the bottom drops out'. Whenever I see the sliver G listed, it is touted as 'Rare', yet you often will see two or three of 'em on the bay at the same time. Several months ago (before the VL announcement) one was offered at Buy it Now for only $350. Granted, it went quickly but just last week another silver one went for $429 with 37 bids. At present there are two, one 'rare' for $795 and the other at $549 with no bids yet. One wonders what is the difference between the two?

There are several others in different colors for $500 - $625 which is a good direction. Hopefully, sanity will prevail...

PS  I would like to acquire a Green JLC and can offer a Legacy Mikado in UP for one.

Sam,

I think anywhere between $450 and $600 is a fair price for a LN to Mint Lionel JLC GG1.  Win/Win for both the seller and buyer.  One has to wonder what was going on in the mind of the eBay seller when he posted that "new" JLC GG1 as a BIN for $350.  That's not what I call Win/Win by any stretch of the imagination... just a seller who needed immediate cash and left a significant chunk of change on the table.  His loss, but I don't think that will set a new "expected selling price" for all JLC GG1's going forward.  I know I wouldn't sell any of mine for that price... no way, no how.

Now the big wildcard will be how high the street price will be for the new Legacy GG1, because if it's too high it could actually cause a bump in prices for the JLC GG1's.  Only time will tell.

If Lionel prices the new GG1 anywhere close to the JLC GG1's $899 MSRP (highly unlikely when the FEF-3 has a $1699 MSRP), then the price of JLC GG1's have nowhere to go but down... and very quickly at that.  But again, i just don't see that being a viable pricing scenario.

Im with you D5.When the Vision Line Big boy came out I bought two Legacy Bigboys..Yes TWO for $1950.00.plus shipping.Guys will dump them at fire sale prices to raise money for their new obsession.Keep the new ones coming Lionel!!Nick Originally Posted by D500:

Now, if Lionel would come out with a new "Ultra-Vision" (or whatever) NYC J1e Hudson, maybe I could

find one of the "plain" VL versions at a price that I like, or even find one at all.

Walking through a local show last weekend I couldn't help but notice the wide selection of Lionel TMCC engines at near give away prices.. Which got me thinking... What a sharp contrast between MTH and the Lionel business model.

On one hand MTH is just about to release a WIFI module that brings new excitement and far more options to every RailKing & Premier P-2 & P-3 engine ever made, while at the same time Lionel is promoting a universal remote with limited feature options that obsoletes every traditional TMCC engine produced over the past 20 years.

IMO, The very best option today for Lionel fans savvy enough to see through marketing hype is get out there and find a so called obsolete TMCC control set and take advantage of today"s great low prices on beautiful  TMCC motive power in the secondary market.

At the very least you'll have far more features available with thousands of previously owned engines at a fraction of the cost.. Heck, you'll even have control of switches and accessories that Lionchief+ won't allow..

Bring on those obsolete & beautiful TMCC JLC's....Actually, all TMCC engines that run nearly as smooth as the new ones for those that eventually opt for Legacy...

Bottom line, If you can see through the hype, there's never been a better time to pick one up...

I'm with you too JOE.  At the recent YORK meet I noticed one vendor in the Orange Hall had TMCC NIB at great prices.  I picked up a NIB conventional Bethlehem Steel Mogul at a give away price of 200 bucks.  If I had more green in my pocket I would have bought more engines.  Hopefully he will be there selling them in April?  I'm in!!!

Hello.

I am the one selling the Black GG1 on eBay and yes it is listed at a very high price, As the old saying goes, if the price is right I will sell it, but I won't mind keeping it, I love this engine!

I also agree, any of the Lionel JLC engines are amazing and are currently a great value if you don't have to have a Vision version or the Legacy features.

There was a JLC gg1 PRR for 420 buy it now on eBay, WOW, that was a great price on an amazing engine. I almost bought that one myself.
