While some forum posters have the space and $$$ to have a scale Polar Express  loco and cars, I'd expect the majority are more than content owning and running Lionel's traditional 0-27 size P.E. offerings. So, thank you Ed Boyle, Dave Siburn and  everyone at ORG for recognizing that and publishing in the current issue of OGR an enjoyable, informative history of Lionel's development of its P.E. offerings.

Albeit though they're not a part of the book or film, perhaps a future OGR issue might feature both the P.E. freight set and diesel powered modern passenger sets.

Until then, a question for those with either of these sets, do their sounds include specific sound bites from the film as the newest 10th anniversary edition does, or is their sound limited to engine and generic cab and yard chatter?

Also, while this article was limited to Lionel's o gauge P.E. offerings, does anyone know for certain whether the S gauge American Flyer P.E. set features the same dialogue clips from the film as the O gauge 10th Anniversary set has?

Again, kuddos to those resposible for this article spotlighting Lionel's P.E. franchise!

BTW, the rest of this current issue is equally enjoyable and really gets one thinking in a festive holiday frame of mind.

The sound bite on the 0-27 Conductor Car is the voice of Tom Hanks from the movie. This "All Aboard" message is the same on the scale 1225 tender.

Lionel hit the jackpot with the original PE set that was timed in it's release with the movie back in 2004. For many folks, it put toy trains back with the celebration of the Christmas season and that's a good thing for our hobby.

Look forward to getting my December issue to read this article.

I have not purchased an OGR magazine in years.  However, today while I was at my favorite Hobby Shop I bought this issue specifically for this article.  I really enjoyed it.  Did this prompt me to go out and search for a Polar Express train.  Not at all, you see I already bought the Polar Express from Pat's Trains last month when he was blowing them out the door for $199.  In addition, a friend of mine went to York last week and picked up the Hobo Car and the Hot Choclate car to add to my consist.

I have not had a train under the Christmas tree for about 10 years.  Well all that is going to change this year as I break out all the Dept 56 houses and shops to provide atmosphere and backdrop for the Polar Express.  Picked up some additional 30" sections of track today and will be going back to the Hobby Shop next week for more of the same.

Thanks OGR and Thanks Pat's Trains.

AND...     Merry Christmas to All !!!
