Hello all! RonthePirate here. Gonna take you to my backyard and show you all my dream come true.

I have been into model railroading since the age of seven. And thanks to my wonderful wife, I get brand-new railroad room.

Here's the very beginning. I'm starting with a 12' x' 16' covered patio, adding a floor and wall, and insulating as I go:

(I call this shot, "In the beginning.........")

I live in Bullhead City , AZ. We have temps about as hot as Death Valley here. So insulation is a must!

I first put a thick black plastic down as a moisture barrier. Then I lad down 2x4's on their edges, giving me 31/2 inches to put insulation in.

Then I put R-13 roll fiberglass in the spaces.

Finally covering the "bones" with 1/2" OSB.

I now have the exterior walls on most of the room finished. I ran out of money, so I couldn't finish them this month.

(My wife and I are both retired. This room gets completed retirement check by retirement check)

I haven't cut the windows out yet. A friend of mine says he has two 30h x 48w dual-panes I can have, but I'm waiting till i get them to make the changes.

The 5500 BTU A/C unit was given to me! It works perfectly.

I don't have the pics yet, batteries went dead. They will be posted tomorrow (Saturday)

As promised, here's pics of what's been accomplished since then.

The first two are of the inside looking through the door. The windows haven't been cut yet, and I'm glad I didn't. The guy didn't come through with the ones he promised me.

Here's the door, still hasn't got the siding over it yet.

And the rear sides. A/C unit sticking out.

Here's the windows. Kept them small, harder to crawl into that way.

Outside

and inside

My buddy, who was trained to wire up offshore oil rigs is coming over Saturday to electrify this baby. I guess the rule is "get as many outlets as you can".

Which would make sense

Oh, and prrhorseshoecurve...........my railroad fund is managed by the U.S. Government.

In other words, my retirement checks come once a month. I can't spend what I don't have.

Don't use credit cards either.

And I don't play that much any more anyway. Used to.......I do miss the video poker.

Nice train house! Well, my rule is, at least 1 properly grounded 15amp dedicated circuit for transformer and control power. Receptacles where desired. Put a master switch for that circuit near the door. On when you enter, off when leave, run to it for major shorts.

Lights on their own circuit and general receptacles on their own circuit. You may to check your local code rules to prevent any hassles down the road, # of receptacles required, height and placement of receptacles and such.

I would haves used 1x6 for the walls for the thicker insulation.

Hi, Moonman. Thank you! And a real thank you for the suggestions.

I would have used 2x6's too. But unfortunately, a reduced Social Security check says no to that. So I have that little bit extra each month on my electric bill.

But the roof vent is a must. And I'm kicking around a small skylight to help save lighting costs during the day.

Oh, lighting will be 2 8' dual fluorescents on the ceiling. Enough to show off any detail.

I was going to use one 30 amp circuit breaker. And yes, the master switch is a go!

But your dual circuits is a better plan. I'll talk to my buddy about that. He'll probably agree too.
