Where is it??????

syracuse fair grounds.  i know i will be there.  

That layout is huge and would be awesome to see. A bit too far for me.

Ahh, yes...  I should have said it.  It is a the NYS fairgrounds, in Syracuse, NY.

Sadly, the Lackawanna E8s are gone... They are sitting in a weed-infested yard track in North Creek, NY.

Curious....what happened to the E8s such that they're sitting rusting now?

Ed, the Great NYS Train Fair is always the one of the first of the season, and this year is November 2nd and 3rd... More details here: http://www.modeltrainfair.com/

Chris, the E8s were purchased from our group by Iowa Pacific, and moved under their own power (all four 567s started) to the Dewitt Yard in Syracuse for transfer by CSX to the CPR, for the Saratoga & North Creek.  More information on the units here: http://www.cnynrhs.org/past.html.  We have heard that they are slated for future painting into Illinois Central brown / orange or D&H lightning stripes.  I suspect D&H to match the cars...

Pete... we wish!

Here's the update from one of my cohorts from 10 Sept:

"I was in the Saratoga area last weekend and took a spin up to North Creek.  Our old engines looked in a rather depressed condition.  They were push out into the weeds buried deep in a pack of old equipment waiting for reconditioning.  The door were all open and scrub trees growing around them.  The guy in the station who appeared to be some sort of manager said it would be a couple of years before they get to working on them.  Then they would be painted in the IP brown & orange paint scheme.  I took some pictures using my son's borrowed camera and am having trouble downloading them.  So I will send them out next week."

Here is a recent photograph of a few weeks ago as taken by one of our CNYNRHS photo group members.

We will be organizing a work party soon to work on the 45 Ton locomotive and winterize it properly.  We are looking forward to start restoration work on it in the spring.

Great show and deals each year, will be there on Sunday 11/3 this year. Can't wait!

This picture was taken last fall after the sale of our clubs E8's was made official.  I figured it was only a matter of time before the opportunity of getting a photograph like this would gone forever.  I took several photographs of the model with the prototype.   THANKS MTH for producing the model!
