Coincidently, my wife, pictured in the first attached photo, and I stopped at this “Isaly’s” store in West View while in Pittsburgh last month during the week before York.  But note the periods after each letter in the sign above the door.  The name “Isaly’s” is now owned by an LLC corporation not affiliated with the original Isaly’s family in Evans City, PA who is making and packaging the famous Isaly’s chipped ham and barbeque sauce under that name for sale in supermarkets, deli’s and convenience stores.

Anyway, in order to get around that trademark issue, this store in West View added those periods between each letter.  We went into the store and it was very similar to the Isaly’s stores I remember.  The second attached photo shows a view of the inside.  We had an ice cream cone but it was definitely not the same.  Not a “skyscraper” cone like in the past but just a small cake cone like other ice cream stores sell.

And the 3rd photo is a shot of the MTH Railking Isaly’s corner store on my Christmas layout a few years ago with the Pittsburgh PCC in the background.

They are selling Islay's ice cream at PNC Park this year. I do not know who is making it for them.

Isaly's Ice Cream at PNC
The Pirates have partnered with Pittsburgh area-based Isaly's to offer Isaly's ice cream at PNC Park, at the Sweet Spot location on the Main Concourse. It has been over 35 years since the last batch of original Isaly's Ice Cream was made at the famous Boulevard plant. For now, PNC Park is the only place to serve the famous Isaly's Ice Cream. Available flavors include classics such as chocolate, vanilla, and mint chocolate chip, new favorites such as Parrot Claws (creamy vanilla with ribbons of fudge and miniature peanut butter cups), Salty Caramel Truffle, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and of course an Isaly's favorite, Maricopa (creamy vanilla with ribbons of butterscotch). The authentic taste of Pittsburgh's own Isaly's Ice Cream is a summertime tradition dating back to 1931 when the first Isaly's ice cream cone was sold on the Boulevard

isaly book

For those who are not friends with/following Brian Butko on the book of face, he announced that a sequel to this book is in the works. Of course, there is the Luna Park/other W PA parks book to finish, the "big" Kennywood book to follow his pocket guide, and his day job at the Heinz History Center.
