Hi folks,
I received my Lionel Bethlehem Steel Genset yesterday. I was surprised to see they retained the opening doors covering toolboxes? and the switches for various Legacy functions. That was a plus, as with the change to plastic bodies, one smoke unit etc. I was afraid I might be disappointed. The fit and finish were terrific. The yellow color is significantly paler than the yellow in the catalog. I don't even have a power transformer handy, so I could not test any running functions. I am in the process of moving from AZ to NY. The bodies seem to have plenty of see through grill work etc. The roof of the cab has 2 nice molded in vents with small fans. (no rotating fans) There are 2 figures in the cab. It has ditch lights in the front, and I think electro couplers on/at both cab ends. It has a hefty weight to it, and is dual motored. It also has dual speakers. Came with a funnel, and extra traction tires.
All in all, I like the road name, and it's fit and finish are the best feature, IMHO, that I could tell without any means of being able to run it. So despite the changes from the first run, I like this engine! Now I have to order the 50' covered gondola from somewhere!
One thing I did notice that I did not care for were no "covers" on the smoke exhaust stacks like the first run Lionel Gensets have. You get 3 smoke stacks, that you install yourself.
I looked at this at 2:00 in the morning, by a bedside lamp, so I'll take another look in the daylight. If anything significant pops out, I'll post a follow on post.
