How does the gold chessie look? Does the paint have a shine like some of the others like the SF plated sides or is more like a regular paint job.

Have not seen one?

Mine are on the way. Several pallets coming. Be here Tuesday.
I imagine it will be just like the prototype and first run of the MTH Gold GP40 that was in a packaged set....painted, as seen pictured below.
The ES44 in the recent catalog, supposedly to be delivered this summer, is gold plated instead of painted. I'm really looking forward to that one.
I saw one up close and personal a couple of days ago. The gold paint is quite flat. I was not terribly impressed (although it doesn't really matter to me because it is not a model I planned to buy).
Thanks guys for the update, I guess I'll just have take a look at when I see it and decide if I like it or not
SJC, THE ES44 should be very nice, looking forward to it.

Wow... one of my favorite engines...
The lighting is dark... is it the lighting or is it more of a dusty silver? That picture doesnt make it look gold...
Looks gold to me on my iPad. . May your monitor needs adjusting , Bob

I'll confirm it when I see it in person.

Understand the engine in my picture is the PS2 version from 2006-ish when MTH offered this engine as part of the "Chessie Show Train" Set. That was, until now, the only time they offered the gold GP40. I was lucky enough to pick this set up off of one of the locals at my LHS, who I've known for many years, and was downsizing his collection.
I'd also be interested in seeing the new one. The gold plated ES44 coming later this year should really be stunning - I've got one of those on order!
In that dark photo, looks like a window is casting blueish light on front of engine. That kinda makes it look more dusty silver...
I think its the photo...
I did not order this locomotive as I was skeptical as to how it would look compared to the real deal. MTH did a PURR-FECT job on this!!! In the 1970s my Uncle was an Operator for Chessie and I fondly recall seeing this locomotive back then. Saw this today at Stockyard Express and had to buy it. Glad I did, as they were selling like water on the Sahara today at Stockyard. The other GP40 that delivered today was in standard Chessie paint. #1977, which is the year my Uncle retired from 38 years with B&O and Chessie System. Thrilled with these, exceptional job by MTH !
Dude! VISTASCOTT, That LOOKS GREAT!
