"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Thanks go our to JohnnySpeed for turning me on to Doug Nelson's N scale PRR Middle Division.

After seeing the video embedded in the N scale Bachmann PRR K-4 thread, I went web searching for more information on this fantastic N scale railroad.  Turns out Doug has a blog, with some fantastic photos on it.  What is REALLY impressive is the layout is rather small, but packs one heck of a punch in terms of excellent modeling, and accurate, weathered appropriately, 50s era motive power and equipment.

The more I see of modern N scale, the more I feel that this scale has as much to offer the modeler as HO.  This layout is not a budget buster, does not require a barn or club space to accommodate it, and obviously provided Doug Nelson the ability to flex his creativity to maximum benefit.

Here is the layout plan.

Here are a couple of teaser photographs:

Great open load of cast iron pigs.

Here is his blog link:

Now for some video links from Youtube:

This is almost enough to make this GN and NP modeler want to model Pennsy.  The operative word is "almost".

Ya know, this layout plan would scale up nicely to O scale too, and not be a budget buster if a person is already invested, with a stable of Pennsy steam and diesel.

Regards,

Jerry

Look at the drivers spinning.....your eyelids are getting heavy....you are feeling drowsy. Tomorrow you will order a complete wardrobe in Brunswick Green. You will replace the door knocker on your house with one shaped like a Keystone. You will send a check to the PRR T&HS for a subscription to "The Keystone". The next time you see "Rocky", you will mistake him for a camel!

ROFLMAOPIMP!

Very entertaining.  As much as I like seeing the wonderful Pennsy models, this N scale loco still trumps it.

Your welcome GNNPNUT. I just assumed everyone was like me and watched videos of all layouts in all scales

Dougs's layout is spectacular. The amount of operation and scenery it packs into such a small space could only be done in N scale. This plan in particular should be popular with O gauge modelers as it is essentially just a pair of loops with staging. It is designed for railfanning. His scenery is a real inspiration to me. I hope I can do half as well on my N scale pike.

Just think, to build this 2.5x10ft N scale pike in O you would need more than 8x33ft. This layout could be portable if built with lightweight methods. Modern N scale is getting very good indeed.
