Good evening everyone,

I just received my new Lionel Legacy GS2 Southern Pacific Daylight, and I'm in my glory

The sounds are just incredible, the whistle is just awesome. The Fat boy speakers are so clear and crisp it's totally amazing to me.

I teamed this engine up with the Shasta Daylight cars and they match pretty good. Whistle steam would have been nice, but kudos

to Lionel. I'm one happy camper

Here's some photos and two video's, use headphones to enjoy the sounds.

Thanks for looking, Alex

Alex, All I can say is WOW! That is an awesome engine. I'm very jealous I've always wanted a Daylight and unfortunately I let this one slip by. That's ok I'll have fun running yours when we get together. Lol! That passenger set looks terrific behind the engine. It looks great on your layout. Enjoy and good luck! I'm looking forward to running it. Lol! Mike R

Nice pictures and videos.  Thanks.  That is a very impressive locomotive - and train.  The daylight GS-2 looks spectacular with the Shasta Daylight car you have for it to pull.  I've always loved the Daylight scheme - colorful and dramatic.  Good layout, too.

Still, when it came time to order mine I went with the black GS-2.  It's a great loco.  I don't miss the whistle steam and I love the sliding windows.  Initially I was disappointed in the sound, but it improved (separate post coming).

Alex,

You're not kidding about the sound. Even through Youtube, the sound is quite full and rich.

Funny, after years of tolerating Lionel's weak smoke offerings, I still find myself being most excited about the smoke units on these Legacy locos.  The cars do look great as well.

Great photos and videos and thanks for posting these.

Mike

Beautiful photos and video.  I passed on this loco because I have the recent #4410 GS-2. Other than the road numbers are these the same locomotives?

ps By "recent" I mean the 2004 locomotive!  Time sure flies when you are having fun.  Mine doesn't have legacy and I didn't think I needed it.  I should never have watched this video!

By pushing the number 6 on your hand held, the air horn should blow. In fact, on the Southern Pacific RR, the Enginemen primarily used the air horn, especially along the coast (route of the Daylights), since the air horn "cut through" the mist & fog much better than the steam whistle. In fact, the steam whistle was only used for signaling the train crew or wayside station personnel.
