Does anyone know if Lionel will be presenting a Vision Line locomotive for 2017 or are they discontinuing the Vision Line series? I would like to go to York on the Oct 20th but only to see a reveal.

If they are, I'm guessing we will here about it at York

Can we get the GG1 out first? It's already looking iffy for this year.

Lionel's website has pushed them back to JAN 2017.
I would not count on any major Vision Line announcements at York this year. I don't have that from a confirmed source, but when the Big Boy was announced they took some time off between announcements. Usually they want the previous release to get to market and then have some time for people to enjoy it. I would think Fall of 2017 would be the next go around with the Vision Line.

Why would you assume they are discontinuing the series? The GG1 hasn't even shipped..
I've bought enough with several items still on order, so I'm in no hurry for another 2K engine anyway. I didn't order the GG1 so that saved me a few bucks.

There was no whay i was buying a gg1 with the only difference was blinking lights on it.. It looks like a air port..

Same here. It would be nice if the next VL, should they do one, not be an engine done many times in the past.
Another Diesel...?

You have got that right. Took me a year in lay away to get the VL BB paid off. And now I am afraid to open the box.
There is no way I am ready for 2K engines or above.... I had to pass on the Allegheny, Y6b, GS4's, T-1's, and the VL GG1 with broadway limited cars.... even if I had the money. I would have to buy a new house to display it all.
For me to dish out big bucks on the next VL engine its going to have to be something totally new. And its going to have to be something really spectacular.

I'm a steam loco person. A far as Vision line engines I'm one of the fortunate ones who can afford them. I have the UP Challenger greyhound edition, the Clinchfield Challenger, The Big Boy, and my favorite JLC Allegheny 1650 which I consider a Vision Line throwback. And Yes I did preorder the new Legacy Allegheny 1601 hoping it has the same JLC tooling with whistle steam. I am hoping that Lionel brings out a blown out PRR T-1 Vision Line. They have not did that articulated engine in years or a steam turbine with all the bells and whistles.

The PRR T-1 4-4-4-4 was not an articulated; it was a duplex.

Now you're talkin, J Daddy. You NAILED it!!! Many folks here suffer from the addiction to having the newest offering. We're all a bit guilty of it from time to time. And this forum is of no help to those seriously suffering from that affliction. With guys rushing to post pics and videos, I'm sure some enthusiasts are doing everything they can to prevent themselves from placing an order for the newest GS-4's.
But the real issue is SPACE. I took delivery of a few sets of Atlas-O Gunderson Well cars w/containers a couple of weeks ago, and the shipping boxes were HUGE. I can only imagine what some of these dealer warehouses look like when multiple pallets of new inventory arrives. It's no wonder they want to ship this stuff out so quickly to customers who pre-ordered. The clutter must be downright unbelievable!!! I'm sure it ain't pretty.
Bottom line... I'm sure some of us have purchased new product as if we have a club-sized layout like the NJ HighRailers -- especially those buying now for that dream layout to be built during their retirement years. Sound familiar? Best advice: build the layout now. It will act as a governor of whether you've over-purchased more than can fit on the layout or on the display shelves. It's amazing how quickly you'll think twice before buying on impulse.

It would be nice to see some more Vision Line operating and sound cars. A milk car with sound and a better operating system, or a horse car with sounds and a corral that has sounds and horses that don't fall over. I could think of a lot of accessories that could be redesigned to modern standards.
Vision line has now lost it's "SPECIAL". The only difference between the VL GG1 and the JLC GG1 is really only the sparking pantos.

Along with the "sparkling Pantos" is a stereo speaker setup much like the Big Boy, the pantos now give or flex (the JLC should have done this), the additional Legacy features including IR sensor, 200 speed steps, etc. While these may not be big things and if I owned a JLC would not be enough to motivate a new purchase, they are updates and changes above the spark effect.
Much like David I am very particular purchasing these days as I am just saturated. Room is becoming a problem.

that's what made the vision line special then they got into the habit of rehash items they have done in the past I have several items from the first run and I will stay with that until I see something I haven't seen before, When you see something new never done before you will pay premium prices, Look at the EVO who would pay 800-1000 for a diesel locomotive not they are going upwards of over 1500.00
Fwiw, I would like to see a Vision Line Amtrak turbo liner. With modular bodies, Lionel could incorporate both the original Anglo American and the Rohr turbo liners. Besides the 4 paint schemes of Amtrak. With the original Anglo American version could be sold overseas in the French and paint schemes.
Also the "fantasy" ace 3000 would-be perfect for Lionel since they do a lot of fantasy paint schemes.
Finally I second a Vision Line PRR T1 or a USRA 2-10-2!
I would also go for a T-1. Does not have to be Vision Line, but if it was that would be ok.
What would/could make it a vision line loco?
1 Removable skirting and maybe front end, but that would take a bunch of engineering.
2 Dual or Triple speakers like the Big Boy.
3 Kinamatic (sp) coupling
4 Smoke effects
Anything else?
Charlie
MartyE, I agree those are "upgrades" that come with technology territory, not having them would be like getting the new smart phone running the old software. Those things are not what made VL special. I too am at saturation and not only do I not long for many new things I am letting go of many older things or things that just don't fit my taste and style or meet my standard. I have quite a few VL items and I love them all but I have 2 JLC GG1's and didn't pay more than $400 for either one was brand new. They need to come back with something thats REALLY COOL and really has the WOW factor, the things that make it special just because its new, doesn't make it special.

I 100% agree. The only reason I ordered a VL GG1 is because I didn't have a JLC. I've been asking for a a Legacy GG1 for ever. Since it bothers me when someone begs a manufacturer to make something and then they don't buy it I felt compelled to purchase the Legacy version that just happens to be a VL. I rememebr the original VL concept was to bring new engine that were not made before. I think that lasted 3 or 4 cycles.
No doubt I'll be happy with my VL GG1 but a Legacy only one would have sufficed.
I do like the stereo speakers in my VL big boy and I'll bet the new GG1 will sound great. I want to see more diecast diesels. or a set of F-units with full blown sound in each unit smoke in each unit, all the bells and whistles in die cast. Id totally go for that but only in Santa Fe warbonnet

The ultimate T1 would have separate motors for the front and rear driver sets with separate chuff switches for each driver set as well. Only the rear driver set would have traction tires. Using a "wheel slip" command, the front motor could be made to run at high speed (with spinning drivers and fast chuffing) while the rear motor keeps constant speed. Because the front drivers have no traction tires, the wheel slip feature could work really well. The "wheel slip" command would slip the drivers for 2 or 3 seconds before the front motor returned to the same speed as the rear motor. This is the effect I've seen in several PRR videos.
Now THAT would make me pony up Vision-type $$ for a locomotive!
Bob, great idea and kind of the reason I mentioned the triple speaker. One for each engine, but only the audible portion of the wheel slip.
Your idea takes it to a whole other level and I like it.

For the money, the best Vision Line engine was the Hudson. IMHO. Price was right and it's a real beauty. BigRail

The price was good. My god the last 3 on that evil site makes me want to sell mine.
As a lot have posted about a vision line f3 set . That sounds good till it's 2500 for a ABA set then everyone will be ****ed.
In my opinion the best detailing on a Lionel Hudson was on the unstreamlined J3a from back around 2000. I would love to see that beautiful locomotive redone in the Vision Line. At least redone with Legacy.

I agree with Matt Makens. Lionel needs to return to all diciest bodies for their Diesels.
In 2007, I hoped Lionel would bring back the scale Hudson. They did, in the Vision Line model, and I couldn't be more satisfied. I wanted that more than anything, but during my community college days I sold my less than excellent condition model. I'm really starting to regret that...
Personally, if there's a demand for an engine that deserves to be given the platinum pampering like the Big Boy, GG1, and the scale Hudson, I say go for it. Yes, I would like to see more unique engines Lionel hasn't made before like the Genset switcher and the 2-10-10-2, but I've never felt any engine Lionel's chosen already didn't deserve the Vision treatment, nor did I feel they wasted potential.

That's a no-brainer. I just won't buy it.

You forgot to include that important second set of motors.. One can only imagine how badly your die-cast A-B-A set of F-3's would run with just the typical under powered two in current Lionel cab units..

I would like to see the GE ES44ac Tier 4 especially since they already did the GE ES44ac 2010. I think Lionel could appeal to both collectors and operators. If you already have the 2010 it would make a great pair .
Here is what would get the credit card out because I am really out of room and the budget is thin with the new layout.
1) A Vision Line complete train
2) It will have an iconic steam loco with a fixed wheelbase BUT ALL the bells and whistles. Blowdown, steam chest, Dynamo, whistle steam, and swinging bell.
2) The cars will be freight but ALL Vision Line activated complete with sound in all the cars.
3) Hopper will have remote opening chutes, boxcar with remote opening doors, tank car with swooshing sound, operating Legacy crane and an operating caboose with moving flag man.
4) Mike, take my order now !!!
You heard it here from Scrapiron Scher
Put me down for that Vision Line complete train set, and by the way make it a PRR T-1 duplex and my credit card will be out too.

I agree with MLAT. I also would love a Vision Line GE ES44ac T4 or an EMD SD70ACE GM T4. They just look too kool.

Put my vote in for a modern diecast diesel. I will never be able to afford, much less justify one of the ES44's for the prices they are going for now. But a new one under $1200 would easily win that years train budget. I have a diecast genset and I love the weight and detailing (backwards horse and all)! Plus the paint scheme on the 2015 demonstrator is absolutely beautiful!

I'm probably in the minority, but I think the best VL loco so far is the Challenger.
And not to start a great debate, but I still prefer my K-Line scale Hudson over the VL one....even with the swinging bell.
But compare the price of the most recent Legacy UP 844, NKP 765, GS4, T1, etc.....to what the VL Hudson cost. What happened? And these were essentially reissues.....
I have both the Clinchfield Challenger #672 previously owned, "may God rest his soul" by Richard P. Kughn, the UP Challenger #3976, and the Big Boy #4014 and by far my favorite Vision Line engine is the JLC Allegheny #1650. It was the Vision Line at that time. The details are insane. Those who do not agree haven't seen an Allegheny. It's not an opinion it's an objective fact. So **** spectacular I ordered The new Legacy #1601 from Legacy Station.
