As many of you railroad aficionados know, The Putnam Division of the NY Central (The Put)  was a financially struggling branch line railroad that ran relatively short passenger and freight trains from the Sedgewick Avenue Station in the Bronx, NY (near the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium) through Westchester County to Brewster, NY in Putnam County, NY.

It has given me great pleasure to gradually add features to my layout that make it more reminiscent of The Put. This includes adding my Popsicle Stick Polo Grounds (I already had Yankee Stadium from the get go), a log loader to supply Loyds Lumber (lumber was an industry serviced by the Put), milk cars and farm with cows (there were dairy farms along The Put in Northern Westchester County) and various trains and train cars that are models of the real thing that rolled down the rails of The Put.

I will be posting numerous photos and videos on this thread of the trains I have that are models of what ran on The Put. If you have any such models, I would love to see them.

In the meantime, I will start us off with Sally the Yard Goat (the star of the show on another recent thread in the Lionel Service Forum) who shuttles passenger and freight cars in the yard of The Put in my basement:

Again, if you have trains, structures or scenery that are models of the real thing along, and/or ran on, The Put, please post photos and videos of them here. Arnold

The Put ran NY Central Ten Wheelers (4-6-0 steamers). There are photos of these Ten Wheelers in various booklets about The Put railroad, and I  believe they ran in the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s.

Below is a video of my #1 favorite locomotive: a Legacy NY Central 4-6-0 steamer with whistle steam:

See it rolling around the bend, passing by my Popsicle Stick Yankee Stadium (the bleachers and stands in the ballpark are made of Popsicle Sticks), with smoke and sounds galore. I run it in command mode using the LionChief Universal Remote. Arnold

Consider modeling The Put, especially if you are like me and do not have a basement the size of a school gymnasium for your model railroad.

Why?

The Put ran short trains, usually just a few passenger cars or freight cars. IMO, if you have a modest sized layout, your trains will look better if they consist of just a few train cars.

When modeling The Put, your trains will be prototypically accurate if they consist of just a few train cars.

Are you into Lionel Postwar operating cars like me? If so, The Put is ideal. The Lionel operating milk cars, log dump cars and coal or ore dump cars are perfect for modeling The Put. Dairy farms, lumber companies (Lloyd's Lumber), and the Tilly Foster iron ore mine were industries along the right of way of The Put.

Are you into baseball like me? If so, you will be euphoric like me modelling The Put. Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds were very close to the Sedgewick Avenue Station of The Put.

Do you like the New York Central? If so, The Put was part pf the New York Central. In fact, The Put is The Putnam Division of the New York Central Railroad.

Do you like diesel switchers and small steamers like me? If so, the Put ran 10 wheeler steamers (NY Central 4-6-0 steamers), RS-3 Diesel switchers and even a center cab diesel switcher. I have models of all these locomotives and am thrilled with them. They navigate my 031 curves beautifully.

I have had a ball narrowing my focus and modeling The Put.

Long live The Put!
