Several years ago Andy Sperandeo wrote an article in Model Railroader about constructing ATSF waycars. He used a spattering of flat black on one side of clear styrene and a spattering of dullcote on the other. It was very convincing but it was in HO scale.

What about using one of these for a screen material?

They look great!  Possible suggestion on the window screens is to use some thin brass angle stock, cutting the length of the screen perimeter, then notching and bending into a parallelogram frame to fit the slider rails, then gluing the screen mesh onto the back of the frames.

Best screening material I have seen is described in Model Railroader Magazine, September 1996, page 77...probably look even better in the larger scales.

Lipton Pyramid tea bag material looks purdy convincing too.

if you want silver. They ended up course mesh and were originally much finer.

also brass, and copper (composites) available.

All different mesh sizes and better in bulk.

Well, I'll try it. I ordered the Pyramid tea bags tonight. I found the nylon pyramid tea bag mesh but not in the USA. Malcolm

That's strange.

I mailed tea bag material today.

Brother Love, your hand made model looks as good or better than the Overland Mo Pac I purchased years ago. The O-L model had molded in truck springs that were a real kick in the backside for the money paid for a brass model....

Malcolm, Simply one of the coolest cabooses running round on 2 rails today!  Extremely well done.

Malcolm, absolutely beautiful work I must say. I grew up next to the Mopac line and use to see the old transfer cabooses and U-boats go by my house day and night. Any chance that you would make one for sale?  Let me know if so and again top notch work!
