So I picked up a K-LIne Semi-Scale steamer part number K3697-0332W which has the Signal Sounds board. I was able to swap out the 3 postion reverse board for a R4LC command board and the engine runs great. Now my question is should I try to find the board(s) to get the railsounds put in and if so where would be the best place to obtain them? As far as I can tell I will need the railsounds power board and sound board. If this gets too pricey I may just stay with the signal sounds. What are your thoughts on this?

Captain,

We have both boards you need, total to include shipping $71.00. If you decide to upgrade I would consider using ERR sounds. The price of the ERR RS is  $79.95 but your getting rail sounds equivalent to 5.0. If you decide to use RS 5.0 you will have to solder the wires which is no big deal, the RS 4 are plug and play.

So what would I solder or tie into? Maybe I am not clear in my question since I am not clear on how I would use/install the ERR board. Thanks!

Jeff,  Go to ERR web and down load the instruction manual for the Sound product.

Basically you will gut the tender of the Lionel mother board and sound parts.  Then do a fresh install of the ERR sound board into the tender.  You probably can keep the original speaker.  The original tether is kept and it has to be wired up to the new ERR board.

Or you search Lionel's part site and choose RS 4.0 or RS 5.0 sound set you think you would like and then it is just plugging into the existing mother board and possibly moving some jumpers on the board.  Instructions for that are on Lionel's Website.

Jeff,

Does your tender have all the Tmcc  components to include the DCDR located in the tender, if so all you will need to do is solder the AC Hot and Grd, serial and speaker wires or use wire nuts. The serial wire is purple. That wire needs to be soldered to pin 24 of the R2LC or pin 10 on the motherboard were the railsound board plugs in. The black wire next to the purple is a ground. Any other questions just ask.

GGG, I thought you couldn't buy RS 5 sound board unless you traded in your broken RS 5 board. Am I wrong???

Where would those instructions be? I looked for them but couldn't find them. Thanks, Nickstrains.

I haven't gotten one of these yet. Do they have audible chatter?

Interesting part number on the Lionel one in that it has a 5 in it. That kind of made me think RS5, but the picture says much more in the opposite way. Assuming the pictures are accurate.

I've found finding much of the tmcc-legacy info like pulling teeth as they say. It all seems to be out there...somewhere.

Hello Bill,

Can you send me a PayPal invoice for the boards. Plug and play is going to work the best.

Thanks,

Jeff
