I'm planning on greasing and lubricating my MTH U25 locomotive this weekend, but the owner's manual (yes, I actually did) is a bit skimpy on instructions. (Of course, there's no exploded diagram available either on the MTH web site, either.) I have three questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me (without laughing too hard).
Question 1
There are two grease screw ports on each truck which the manual tells you to remove. What it doesn't say is one port is in the clear, but the other one is partially blocked from removal by the roller assembly (see photo below). I'm guessing I need to loosen or remove the roller assembly's mounting screw to get it off the locomotive or swung out of the way. Am I correct that that screw just attaches the assembly to the bottom of the the truck and isn't attached to more parts on the inside of the truck?
(I thought I'd ask before I break something.)
Question 2
A lot of the past postings here on lubricating MTH locomotives talk about using "Red Tacky 2" grease which you can buy at an auto parts store. There was a caution or two about using plastic compatible greases. Is Red Tacky 2 safe for lubricating MTH locomotives including gears? (In the past, I've used the Lionel grease on my other locomotive, an MTH FP-45.)
Question 3
Those same past postings talk about using a "syringe" to insert the grease into the grease ports. What kind of syringe is this and where do you buy one?
Thank you.
