I have several Lionel freight cars that have black stretch cables that have become too stretched out to be used any longer. They have eyelets on each end that hook onto posts and are meant to hold the product down on the flat car. I am looking for ideas for replacements for these straps.

Regards,

Steve

You can get black elastic cord in Michael’s or Hobby Lobby in the jewelry section.  You can, probably, find an assortment of hooks and rings that might work and it will look better than those big clunky rings.  If you like the look of the original tie down, pick up small (22 awg) terminal ring connectors at Lowes, HD or an automotive store.

With the 50 off Lionel parts sale, these ties down will be $0.50 each but you will still have to pay for shipping.  For less than $5 you could make 100 of them.

This was plucked from the "Free & Unique Stuff to Use" post on my new website ( www.WarrenvilleRailRoad.com ):

Flat car Load/Log "chains":

How do you hold loads to your flat cars? Burn the fuzz off of pipe cleaners and what’s left looks like chain/cable.
Like the bands that Lionel uses? Pick up a pack of hair bands from your local chain drug store. Many in the package are white or silver and look exactly like those used by Lionel. Give the other colors to the kids.
