I've got a husky stack with a very whimpy coupler (it wont even hold one car), the truck assembly for the stack cars is listed as unavailable on lionel.com, so I thought I'd try to see if I could tighten it up some how, but the truck doesnt appear as if its intended to be disassembled (its held together with a pair of rivets and captured around the axles so it won't come apart). I can see the little spring behind the arm, but I cant see a way to get at it without taking the truck apart. Do these things come apart? Alternatively, whats the way to wire it up so that the pin cant pop out? It was easy to just wrap a wire around the shank and hold the thumb tacks, but that doesnt look like it'll work with the sliding motion of the hidden tab design. I'm sure I can just superglue the knuckle shut, but I'd rather avoid making it permanent if I can fix it somehow.

Thanks.

If I am correct your hidden tab coupler is the type where a plate on the bottom of the truck pulls down and pulls a small flat bar out of the back of the coupler to open it - this can be adjusted. Above the plate is a tab that hooks into the end of the bar.

That tab is probably bent too far away from the coupler so that the bar never returns fully into the back of the coupler head. Without taking the truck apart you have to carefully bend that tab towards the coupler head. I would suggest not to bend any more than a fraction of an inch at a time.
