ive always been intrigued by the state set but is there bigger more detailed tinplate out there 

what is the most elaborate tinplate passenger train in the world 

is there tinplate passenger cars that make the state cars look like nothing 

is there a tinplate engine that towers over the brute

just asking

The brute is most likely the largest commercially standard gauge engine. There are some home fabricated engines may be bigger but these are one of a kind. The showroom cars designed to go with the Brute ate larger than the State set cars, as you can see below with our own Bearlead holding one. The showroom cars are 31" long.

Look around on Youtube and you'll find several European large scale tinplate videos. There are several German meets that take place where people bring the old stuff out if its hiding places and run it; clockwork, live steam, high voltage electric - not many standards back then. Some Bing gauge 3 and Marklin Gauge 1 (G gauge) below.

Those are super cool.  What is the smallest Lionel engine in the picture?  Is that an O-Gauge model?  

That is my wash machine in the photo. The engines are a super 381. a traditional 381 and the little engine you want to know about is made by Avon. The Brute is much larger than the super 381.

I included a photo of my Brute. The other two photos are from the net. I know nothing about them except they are awesome.

Note the engine Bob posted is not the Lionel engine we are used to seeing.
