Is this a good place for the TIU or can I lower it two feet

Clem,
Exactly where is the TIU?
Second photo, top of center pole. First photo gives a better idea of distance. I wanted to circle it or draw an arrow but forgot how. Or you can click on the photo then enlarge it.

Why not? If you don't mind looking at it and the wires, most we've seen are under the table, but this should be fine.
I really don't like looking at that, rather hide it.

Yep I think that's a great spot....I might also do the antenna modification by drilling a hole in the tiu and sticking the antenna straight up through.. It does make a difference however you have to be very careful moving the tiu around. You don't want a loose antenna.Wow! that's a nice layout.
Clem,
OK, now I see it.
That's a good spot. However, I wouldn't bother with the antenna mod as long as you have good sight lines from wherever you'll be using the remote.
Thank you everyone
From that location, I have a sight line 90% of the time. This is a REV L so I won't do the antenna modification yet.
Clem
Could make for some long wire runs.
Yes it will but, better than under table, and on one side.

That might depend on range distance between tiu and remote. Our layout is about 80 feet long so we need the modification. Maybe Clem doesn't, Do you have anything wired yet clem?
No, started but can't report anything yet, got sidetracked
Clem
I mounted the club TIU up on a post above the layout, solved all the issues we had when it was under the table.
Clem,
On our bigger multi level layout we placed the TIU & the (2) - 24 slot terminal blocks with magic lights at the end of each terminal block, just above the 1st level of the platform, and ran some pretty long lines, never had one problem, the layout ran with all 10's. IMO your TIU placement is fantastic as long as you can arrange decent placement of your terminal blocks.

The TIU location is more about the communication with the remotes than with the track signal.
gunrunnerjohn,
I agree and the only place he might have trouble standing and using his hand held remote control, would be on the oppsite of the platform standing directly behind the pole, and even then it still might not be a problem, because the TIU is up in the air pretty darn high, it might pick up the transmitted signal anyway.

Don,
It does seem that when the TIU is elevated slightly above the 1st level of the layout, everything run better.
