Not too sure what your asking. . .If I make the lashup with the engines in question(RS11/H1644) I want the RS11 long hood forward and the H16 doesnt matter what direction that one is in. Basicly set the H16 as the lead and the RS11 as the trailing loco, that would work except I would not be able to use the horn/bell on that unit.

Other engines in the LU or MU use the DIR button to establish the engines orientation. G

I know about the setting other directions, but I was wondering if anyone had a way to get around not having it in the FWD direction.
It works with my Legacy SD80 powered/dummy, not sure if it'll work for TMCC.

I assume you're building a command system lashup with Legacy or TMCC?

Front engine program for Cab-1
TR->desired train #->lead engine #-> Front Coupler Button-> Direction Button-> set (horn will blow).

Rear Engine program for Cab-1
TR-> same train # as lead-> rear engine #-> Rear Coupler button-> Direction Button (only if you want it to face backwards)-> Set (horn will blow)

That should do it
John is correct!!!!
You will set the lead engine as first and then change its direction so that its long hood forward.
It will work as Jake posted

Front engine program for Cab-1
press TR press desired train # press lead engine # press F Button press Direction Button <I> setting long hood forward press set(horn will blow).

change the lead? Confused Confused Confused Confused
Do not change the lead.

Page 22,23 will help you with what you are trying

Building with TMCC.

Jake; what I am trying to do is;

Take your NYC Geep, and have it as the front loco with your SD80 as the trailing unit, but run the NYC geep long hood forward.
Edited Post

Drew, According to the TMCC manual the lead engine must be in (face) the forward direction...later after the directions for middle or rear engine it does discuss the direction button for controlling engine orientation. Wasn't clear to me it could apply to lead engine as well.

I tried it with my NYC GP TMCC and even if the lead engine, using the direction button after selecting it as a FWD engine will change the orientation so it does work.

The GP will start off long hood forward if I use the direction button after FWD when creating lashup/mu.

When in doubt read the directions and give it a try... Wink G

Jake; what I am trying to do is;

Works with my TMCC geep and Legacy SD80 (geep long hood forward as front engine, legacy engine running as the trailing unit facing forward). You just have to hit the direction button before you hit SET so that the engine will run long hood forward. Just plug in the commands as I said above.

Whichever engine is set as the front engine will be the one that makes the horn/bell sounds. Both will rev up and down normally and the lights on the trailing unit will operate when you reverse them.

Follow Santa Fe18's instructions and you're in. I just did a lashup with both engines nose to nose and  built a train both ways. Everything works as designed. Set the direction button on the loco if you want it to run in reverse before pressing set. Don't press the direction button if running in forward. Good luck!

Yes it is-kind of cheesy really-a Geep with 6 axles is all -which is kinda cool-was advertised as having Odyssey-not-but it has great sounds, runs absolutely beautifully-got it dirt cheap-I wish I could locate another at that price- we are going to be buddies for awhile I hope-the four units together have a great blend of sounds together-a virtual symphony for the senses
