I run two TMCC engines from 2007 and one from 2003 with my Legacy cab2. When programming them do I choose TMCC or Cab 1 control? Lionel has a YouTube video where Mike Reagan used cab 1, but others use TMCC. What's the difference and do the years manufactured make any difference. I've seen a TMCC 1 on a video but not in any instructions, is there a TMCC 2?

If you're running plain TMCC or Odyssey I equipped locomotives, pick TMCC. If you're running ERR Cruise Control, K-Line Cruise, or TAS EOB equipped locomotives, pick R100 for smoother control.
TMCC2 is Legacy, at least that's the popular name for it.
Thanks John,
The engines are: Lionel 2007 GP 30 6-28860 use TMCC & RS5?
K Line 2007 Mikado - specs say Lionel TMCC & RS - use TMCC or R100?
K Line 2003 PRR 505 switcher - specs say Lionel TMCC & RS, but R100 is not an option on my Legacy remote?

All this is confusing! Thanks for any help.

I see what you said. R100 isn't listed as an option for that KLine engine in the manual. For the engines in the original post, I would use TMCC1. TMCC should be ok for the K-Line engines as well.
Thanks MARTYE, as usual you guys are wonderful source for us relative "newbies"! I guess the older YouTube I was watching with Mike Reagan was an older version of Legacy......he only used Cab 1.

With K-Line cruise enabled, the R100 is a better choice. With no cruise, K-Line engines are just TMCC engines, use the TMCC setting. For Lionel TMCC with Odyssey, use TMCC. For ERR Cruise Commander or TAS EOB, use R100.
I like running my EOB and Kline engines in legacy mode. Yes I lose speed steps but I love setting momentum to high and choosing one of the Legacy speeds, restrictive, medium or what have you and watching the engine slowly crawl up to that speed.
kind of wish Lionel would allow you this option in R100 or TMCC modes, even if it isn't accurate scale mph wise. Just love the feature
I agree Gary, but I like the extra speed steps and especially the first slow speed steps for more realistic startup in R100 mode.
The reason that Lionel doesn't allow the momentum in R100 is that it's really just CAB1 mode with some extra display goodies to give you the TMCC keypad icons and the throttle graph. Note that the throttle graph isn't always accurate, especially if you move the throttle at all fast.

Marty, Why is the instruction so confusing though. All modes stated can be used for all engines (less legacy). Why not a better description of pros and cons of each mode for the models. Or refine the actual recommendation. It is almost like an oil weight chart. Any weight works, but in reality the manufacture recommends one specific weight, because....?
George, don't get us started about some of the vagaries of the DCS system operation and configuration! The different modes are primarily to allow compatibility across a product line that spans 20 years. One thing we can probably agree on is they should have a clear explanation of the modes and their usages.

You get the momentum and preset speeds in TMCC, at least I have used them. Sad to hear they aren't there in R100 mode, as I use the preset speeds all the time.
